St Anne in winter #2
Oil on copper 8x8 (c)2011
Nita Leger Casey
I didn't think I would still be painting snow scenes, but when it snows outside it is hard to think of anything else , I had a piece of copper in front of me and wanted to see if I could get the same effect as the last one on a wood panel by using the same colors , close I guess ! painted the church from the front view .
Went to an opening at the Whistler house Museum yesterday ,this small museum has an amazing collection of wonderful New England Artist from 19 th century to early 20 th century like Frank Benson, Aldro Hibbard , Cullen Yates , William Phelps and more , a must see if you are visiting Lowell the birth place of James McNeil Whistler , famous for Whistler's mother .
the Museum is also located very near my studio .
This above painting is available , email me if you are interested

Winter at St Anne in Kennebunkport
6x6 oil on panel (C)2011
Nita Leger Casey
I had a great day today , going to Maine with my two friends, our destination was The Pastel Painters of Maine meeting at Heartwood college , but I made my friends get up early so we could go take sight scene ride to the wonderful Kennebunkport village before the meeting , it was quiet and peaceful not your usual busy tourist attraction , drove down Ocean Avenue to see all the beautiful homes and go By st Ann's church , I have painted this church a few times but never in the winter , so here is is painted with a limited palette ,witch I think I will do more , i love all the range of muted colors .The meeting was very nice seeing friends again ,first time since last year , it's about 100 miles from my house so I do not see them as ofter as I want , a Lecture with a pastel artist Tim Parks was very interesting , a Master pastelist!
a stop in Portsmouth made the day complete .

Decided to work on something that has been on my drawing table for awhile , because I was going with Tim for a routine appointment at the hospital I took my work along and did this in the waiting room , it's a large one with lots of windows and tables , so I was very comfortable , a few patients stopped by to see what i was doing and gave me lots of compliments . always nice !
This old car was down the street from our house in Pepperell and every time I went by it I wanted to paint this old beauty . I have a son who loves to bring them back to life and spends a lot of time in restorations , wondering what he will say when he sees this painting .

8x10 watercolor , copyrighted 2011
Nita Leger Casey
Sunday is not my favorite day ,I always seem to get get the blues unless I am out somewhere , today I really was prepared to take a drive to chase the Sunday blues but the weather was so overcast and cold we choose not to waste gas , not knowing how the sidewalks will be where I wanted to go , my destination was to be Newburryport ,the town I mentioned yesterday .
As you see I am on my street scenes mode ,this was from a photo I took in Savannah , I love that town the old part of course ,I have visited many times ,it is famous for it's special Southern cooking lady and this is her restaurant , let's see if anyone recognized the place ? the parks are great and the waterfront very tourist and funky , my grand daughter loves the candy store there . Tomorrow is valentine's day , be good to your love ones .
Happy Valentine's to all my followers !

Shopping in Newburyport
Watercolor 6x7 copyrighted 2011
Nita Leger Casey
I didn't get to post last night , my husband 's computer crashed and now he seems to like mine , while waiting to use it I feel a sleep . This is the other painting I painted while at the studio the day before , a scene I have been wanting to do for awhile from a visit to Newburyport , a very quint and historical seaside town in Massachusetts , not to be confused with Newburry street who is in Boston. I am a bit tired of the snow right now and wanted something a bit more cheerful, also wanted to get back to some watercolors .
I think I forgot to mentioned , I have joined the Loading Dock art gallery at Western Avenue ,if you are in the area and the artists you are looking for is not in , the gallery gives you the opportunity to see many beautiful piece of art from jewelery , pottery ,quilts photography paintings and more ... and special shows .

The kids are going home !
A Lowell street scene
watercolor 10x7 (c)2011
Nita Leger Casey
I had a great day at my studio today ,I was to meet a client who did not come ,but in the process I painted two paintings ,this one is a view from the window of my studio on the fourth floor . It was about 2:30PM as I was sketching the painting the school bus made a stop at the top of the hill , that sure helped my painting! I was told by a visitor a while back when I showed him the oil I also painted from the same window last summer ,it was the neighborhood where they filmed the" Fighter " the film that is in theaters right now and it was filmed in Lowell , I did see a trailer for the film and you do see our mill in it . This painting is for sale ,email me

they are beautiful pastels , the first time I use this brand, when you paint with pastels , it's a bit of an addiction to get more and more of them .

"Snow fields two"
Mini 3x5 oil on copper
Nita Leger Casey
Last year when I went to Snow camp ,I met Renee Lammers who was painting on copper , me who always wants to try new things , like I don't do enough! must be a disease artists have . While in Maine this past summer I painted a few seascape and liked very much , it has a different feel to it and great for miniatures ,I wouldn't recommend this for larger work . painting with Renee again this past week end where we braced the cold together in these beautiful snow fields and exchanged ideas when we would go warm up by the fire, it was a treat .
Well today I went to clean my studio at the mill as we have open studios this Saturday ,but the weather forecast doesn't look so good more snow for Saturday , when I drove in to Lowell today the roads were very narrow , not much room left for the snow , the banks look like mountains .
Western Avenue open studios in Lowell , this Saturday noon to 5PM
this painting is available , email me .

oil on board 9x12, (c) 2011
Nita Leger Casey
Snowed all day today , so what better time to finish the painting I started at snow camp , specially while I am still in the mood . I knew we couldn't have breakfast club today!
I took a few brakes to shovel, feed my birds ,they ate like no tomorrow , most of the time they was about 10 birds at the feeder all kinds my beautiful cardinals sparrows doves titmouse and more. Then I made my famous crepe batter , posted the recipe on Facebook ,today was the official crepe day in France ,called Chandeleur ! Tim and I just had our crepes for deserts and they were delicious .
I hope I will be able to go to my studio tomorrow , we do have a lot of snow, probably 4 feet on the ground and huge mountains in the yard .
this painting is available ,just email me

Snow Fields at Sunset Hill
16x20 oil on canvas , (c) 2011
Nita Leger Casey
We are in the middle of a blizzard expecting two feet ! coming from snow camp with Stapelton Kearns and anxious to paint more snow scene ,Well I won't have to go far, the big beautiful mountains will be missing but I am sure I will find some great landscape right here in Pepperell .
I really want to try some of the techniques Stape showed us , I am really getting to like the old Aldro Hibbard paintings more and more ,after talking about them the entire week end ,over the years I have seeing many of them specially when I visit the Vose Gallery in Newburry Street in Boston who have a collection of them , they are very impressive ,I must say he had a way with snow , Stape has been walking in his footstep and producing some beautiful work as well . I truly enjoyed this last workshop ,I feel so fortunate to live in this beautiful New England !
Next Saturday , Open Studios at Western Avenue ,noon to 5 , hope to see some of my friends there .
