I went to my Atelier today, just to get back in the routine after the Holidays, it's like you forget what project you were working on! so decided to start cleaning my pastel with some cornmeal, it works like a charm! I had these beautiful colors cleaned and I looked around at an oil I had painted on location before, then I decided I would do it in Pastel, I was happy with the result!
this painting is available email me, nlcasey@charter.net

Blue bird and berries
4x5 pastel ©2015
The last few days during our New England snow storms, blue birds have come to visit , I have been fascinated with them and taking a lot of photos and sketching them, every year they do come looking for the Christmas berries I usually have for decoration on my deck .It was snowing like crazy and they had a feast! today I went to the feed store and got more food for them ,they like meal worms hoping this will keep them around.
email me if you are interested in this small painting.

After the storm!
pastel 5x7
©2015 Nita Leger Casey
We just had a big snow storm in New England over 30 inches of beautiful white powder. Yesterday while watching the snow falling, taking pictures of birds who came to the feeder by the hundreds, walking back and fourth to see how much snow we were getting, picking at food every time I went by the kitchen, a storm will do that to you! So at one time I decided to sit and paint a little and this is what I did, just a simple winter landscape!

Rooster with a good attitude !
Pastel 9x12
© Nita Leger Casey sold
I named him a rooster with a good attitude! because he is one of the few I know who is very nice , I can walk in front of him and not worry about my leg being attack , he is my neighbor's rooster and he comes and visit often. Today I was sitting on my deck cleaning my pastel box when I decided to paint him, I have painted him before in a smaller format .I really need to get back in my routine of daily painting , but I have enjoyed the summer doing other things, Life is too short not to enjoy this beautiful month of August.

Snowing again! but I used the day to be productive and paint at the studios ,my friend Paula asked me to stayed and paint at her studio with Peggy ,it was a perfect day for the company! we talked while painting, I decided on this subject, the first house Tim and I lived at when we got married in France. Today was our anniversary, so I went down memory lane talking about living there in this small chateau ,this was the back of it ,the front was more elaborate ,and the landlord lived downstairs,we also had our first child there. During my last visit I stopped there,it is now an art center, it was converted like thirty years ago .

I am back! I was in France for ten days with all attentions of painting and blogging, but it did not happen,I visited with my family and had a wonderful time, I visited with 26 relatives and 15 friends, lots of catching up on a few years not being there, some friends were from my school days so it was a lot of years! the weather was not the greatest, but managed to still take a lot of photos to work from.We had snow a couple of the days ,it had been so many years since I had experienced snow there, I am used to it living in New England but it was still nice to see the difference in the landscape. A lot of wonderful meals not weight watchers and I enjoyed every bit of it .So today was my first day going to my studio to painting this scene, just a simple village! just liked the way the sun was hitting the buildings .

Winter Stream #4
Pastel 20x25 ,copyrighted 2013
Nita Leger Casey
I must say I am having fun painting these winter scenes, also loving the large format after being on Daily Painters since 2006 and most of the time just painting small works, I feel a little liberated, I don't know how long it will last ? and how fast I will get these framed, just hoping clients will buy them as it and they can frame them themselves. It's very hard to frame and try to please everyone.
This one is not totally finished ,would like to tweak a few things.
Pastel can be shipped sandwiched between foam board if you are interested.

At the edge of the brook
6x8 pastel (c) 2013
Nita Leger Casey
From my winter series #3, I am still driving around to look at some winter wonders! on this one I liked the reflections in the water, then I decided to use a different board, when you use pastels, it is amazing all the different papers and boards you could use, this one was a mat board I primed with a special medium called colourfix primer ,it gives you a fine tooth and perfect for for what I wanted to achieved, this was a smaller one being a 6x8, the first two were large paintings who need to be framed properly.this one is available now as a daily painting, and easy to ship, if you are interested in this one email me nlcasey@charter.net

Winter path
Pastel 6x8
(C) 2012
Nita Leger Casey
Well winter has arrived in New England, we have a nice white blanket of snow, I do love the look of it ,it has a magical look about it and for a pastel artist, I think it's perfect! It was also perfect for my grandchildren who came over for the Christmas week, being from Maryland they sure had fun going sledding, now as for me I love the look but i don't like to walk on the icy part that comes with it, I did not mind it when I was younger, but now I am always afraid I will fall, the fun of getting older ! Yesterday Clancy and i decided to go for a car ride instead and took some beautiful photos of steams, woods, paths etc.. so i hope to work from then in the week to come, I might go back to some spots to start them as well and finish them at the studio, will see what the weather looks like .
This one is available for $100.00 free shipping in the US. email me nlcasey@charter.net
