Lowell has Mills throughout the entire city, this one happens to be where the Brush Gallery is located, one day I was going there and the light was just right and wanted to do it in a really loose way, you know how I paint ! I have a way to ad too many details sometimes, so this time I stooped myself and left it  loose, I figured I got the light!
This painting is available ,

Dark sky in Lowell

8x10 Casein paint
on paper .©2015
It has been awhile since I posted, I had a husband with a bad cold, a sick chicken and extreme cold in New England left me a bit behind in my work !  the husband is fine ,the chicken didn't make it, but I must get back to my routine. I started painting this today, after the drawing was done I realized it was the wrong paper, I picked up a new paper on the market for oil painting, well watercolor does not work with that ,almost trashed it but after supper decided to experiment with it and used casein paint I think I saved it!  a lesson learn with the paper .This is a scene from Lowell very close to my studio . email me if you are interested nlcasey@charter.net

Sketch of a Lowell Mill

 Sketch ©2015 Nita Leger Casey
Happy New Year to all my followers! may you all have a great year!

This sketch is in preparation to a possible painting ,I need to decide what medium I should do it with, loving most of them sometimes it gets to be a challenge for me to make that big decision. I know they have been painted by many artists before me and many will after me, if you love architecture  this is the place! Lowell has a lot of Mills, it make the town very Historical  and a destination for summer visitors, all these Mills have been converted into apartments, businesses  and studios. if you ever one to visit one come and visit me at my studio at Western Avenue .

Market street,Lowell MA

watercolor 8x10 (c) 2012 .
I had a nice week end in Maine relaxing and sketching and also worked on this watercolor for my solo show in November. What I liked in this scene was the nice sunny day with the strong shadows across the road, I think I captured what I felt that day. The downtown of this old mill town  has  made a comeback with nice restaurants and gifts shops,it has a lot of history and the town welcomes many  visitors, interesting tours of old mills and museums are offered. My goal for this show is to capture some of the best of Lowell. Having a studio at Western Avenue has opened my eyes on some of the local scene.

Just a view into my world ! I love old houses as you must see in my work if you have been following me for awhile they are my favorite subject, they have character I cannot described,  I see one a mile away I will stop my car in a dime just to take this special photo, I feel sorry for the person behind me, they honk the horn give me the finger and so on, but I don't care I want to capture the moment, I should have a sign, I brake for old houses! this one is in Lowell the series I am working on now.

The kids are going home !
A Lowell street scene
watercolor 10x7 (c)2011
Nita Leger Casey
I had a great day at my studio today ,I was to meet a client who did not come ,but in the process I painted two paintings ,this one is a view from the window of my studio on the fourth floor . It was about 2:30PM as I was sketching the painting the school bus made a stop at the top of the hill , that sure helped my painting! I was told by a visitor a while back when I showed him the oil I also painted from the same window last summer ,it was the neighborhood where they filmed the" Fighter " the film that is in theaters right now and it was filmed in Lowell , I did see a trailer for the film and you do see our mill in it . This painting is for sale ,email me nlcasey@charter.net
