 I painted this awhile back, it was actually a demo to show an Artist group, how to use pastels and keep it loose and impressionistic. The medium is a bit messy but you really get nice affects.
This is a beautiful farm in our town, the Blood farm ! only a few farm are left in most towns these days, this one still has pristine pastures with rolling hills .

It was March 11, my daughter had taken me to visit Charleston and some beautiful plantation along the coast, this one happen to be Botany Bay Plantation, so peaceful and serene.We had a great time until we got a call from home talking about the virus. My grand daughter was to get home from NY the next day, and I was to live South Carolina  the day after, before it got to dangerous to fly. Well that was the start of confinement,  two months later and still at home !
I did paint this scene as soon as I got back .

Some years back, I would go paint Plein Air at Pemaquid point with some great Artists from Maine. The area is full of history. This Fort William Henry is a great site to visit, the real Colonial Pemaquid .17th century 18th early century. Conflicts between the French and English settlers and Native American.
I painted this pastel on Location there . If you like History and the state of Maine , this is for you !

Mother's day in a couple days!  This painting always reminded me of the old days when all the moms use to hang all the laundry out , it would come back in the house smelling so nice and fresh!  I still hang on a nice day, I painted this a few years back while I was painting with some friends and one artist  did her laundry ,I went out there with my easel in the yard to capture this scene. This painting is available. It would make a great decor for a Laundry room.

Couple days ago , I just looked out of my window and Spring had arrived! here in New England it's a bit slower then the rest of the country, I was exited to see some pretty flowers just pupping out everywhere, so i just wanted  to capture it, as we know it is short lived .I  didn't have a lot time so decided on a mini , they are always good for beginner collectors . This little one is available .

A popular French breed of cows, while in France in November, I stopped and took pictures of some.They are a very soft off white color, I have not seen any in New England, I am sure some farm have them, but not seen with my own eyes . If you come to my atelier, you will see many different cows, I love to hear the visitors talk about them ,great conversations! we have open studios this Saturday! noon to 5 , I am on the 4 th floor 407A

so I decided to look at some old photos of the the village where the Casey's come from, where Tim is related to about everyone in Town from both sides! The village is Castlecove ,Co.Kerry.

Maine Rocks.

I had a pastel board with a no so good painting from a couple years ago, so I decided to add some texture to it with some Gesso and grounds for pastel, when it dried I could see rocks. Being so familiar with those rocks ,that is what I painted !
 Also today I started a larger painting at my Atelier, a full  pastel sheet of a house I have admired for years in Pemaquid , exited to go back tomorrow and finish it .

Hollis Motif #2,Pastel ©2016 Nita Leger Casey. This old ice house or  now an  Apple shed ? it is about 5 miles from my house, and probably am the only local artist who never had painted this scene, it is a very popular one ! it sit on top of a hill in a Apple orchard.

We have been having wonderful sunsets lately, we still have snow on the ground ,but melting faster than I taught  after the amount we had,  but it is a good thing because I really want to see some Spring after such long Winter!

Just playing with some new pastels yesterday ,sometimes you just have to have fun!  also want  less details in my paintings so this was a quick one!
I want to go outside and paint  but we still have so much snow ,1 it will take another month to melt!  so for now I will play with different colors!

The moon has been just spectacular these last few days, from my window I could see it, what better place to sit in front of the window and paint this beautiful moon.
I have painted many moons before one just became the cover for a book of poems about the moon , will post later. 

Degas style

This past month I have gone twice to the Degas show at the Boston Museum of Fine arts, Yesterday my friends and I went again before the show closes. Degas painted in Pastels a lot and always painted his woman's from the back , so I challenged my artist friends to do a painting Degas style, I did one first to start the challenge ,this was done  from a photo of the back of the head of my daughter, I used pastels and many of his color palette, this is the result !
Challenge yourself, it's always fun !
