Hollis Village

I live on the Massachusetts border with New Hampshire. The town closest to me is Hollis with tons of New England charm, so I must say it's always a pleasure to paint there. I have done this scene a few times, different style. I did one in Pastel, that was sold right away, also have done it in Pen & ink.

Couple days ago , I just looked out of my window and Spring had arrived! here in New England it's a bit slower then the rest of the country, I was exited to see some pretty flowers just pupping out everywhere, so i just wanted  to capture it, as we know it is short lived .I  didn't have a lot time so decided on a mini , they are always good for beginner collectors . This little one is available .

Gloucester harbor on a Sunday afternoon

Watercolor 11x14
©2014 Nita Leger Casey
Wanted to keep working on my watercolor series of Seashore in Massachusetts while it is still fresh in my mind, I travel the back roads of New England all year and always come upon the most beautiful scenery and if I don't paint them right away it gets backed up and I loose the momentum of what I felt that day, the light the season the atmospheric feeling and so on . All my paintings are original, meaning I go to all the places I paint. I feel very lucky to be able paint in beautiful  New England. email me if you are interested in this painting ,it will be matted in a 16x20 matt.

Watercolor 11x14
©2014 Nita Leger Casey
This past Mother's day Tim and I went for a Sunday ride to Rockport ,it was a beautiful very hot Spring day, all the flower bushes had peeked ,the light was just perfect, I had all intention to paint on location, but didn't expect that everybody had the same idea  to go visit the town, way too many people  to find the right spot. I did get some nice photos. I also wanted to paint the scene while it was fresh in my mind. I just love that cute town !  this watercolor is available email me if you are interested.  $225. matted  nlcasey@charter.net

Down in the village

Watercolor 8x10
copyrighted 2013
Nita Leger Casey
I painted this during the week but just getting to post it now, this was a scene from my recent trip to France, I just wanted to capture this great light, that got my attention while I was at this village visiting a castle above this little town, and the scene called for a watercolor .
Today was a bad day for me, my beautiful hens that I have painted a few times ,well this morning  a predator  killed them ,we think a fox my neighbor thinks a hawk ,not sure? I feel so bad for my little rooster who survived and now is all alone, he did put out a fight ,feathers all over the place.

"Spring shadows " original watercolor
8x5 copyrighted 2010
Nita Leger Casey sold

Took a few days off my wonderful series of Downtown Boston , I love the soft colors of Spring with this brown stone house on Newburry Street , I have a few more to do , but also other projects so I might not post everyday, commissions come first!
I have a challenge going with my artists Breakfast group , paint a scene working with only two colors , a few have done it already I probably will post the results later, it is amazing all the colors you can make with only yellow ochre and burnt sienna with white and black .

"A touch of spring in the city"
Nita Leger Casey
Original Watercolor,mini (c)2010
Went to Boston yesterday to my favorite Street and captured more scenes for my series , Spring on Newburry Street is always spectacular and this year I think it is early by a couple weeks . The Boston Marathon was the day before , plenty of visitors and tourists were in town , I stopped in a few shops it is always a treat to see the different decors and display of the beautiful things they sell in their stores . I only had time today to paint a mini , but more to come will follow , hoping to work a bit larger in the next few weeks . For the collectors of minis , this one is a gem an original watercolor .

First Spring Plein air , Willard Brook . pastel 11x14 still in progress !
Nita Leger Casey
A wonderful Spring week end it was! for New England that is , because it was snowing in Texas.
Yesterday I cleaned the yard and the chicken coop , later in the afternoon Tim and i went to a chicken farm in Ashby to get some new Hens ,I had missed my chickens over the winter I needed a new batch , on the way there I found this beautiful scene with a brook , told Tim I am coming back to paint this scene , we took three hens , all different types ,stopped for ice cream and got them settled in their new homes , the neighbors came over to greet them ,they also have chickens and they spend a lot of time in my yard also , just a big family here !
So today after breakfast I decided to go back to this nice spot ,while I was painting i saw the farmer
and in the process i decided to get two more hens , I figured it was best to get five now , because it is so hard to introduced new ones at a later date , so I now have five new girls all different colors , i am sure i will paint them !
this painting still needs some work ,but decided to post it anyway .

This old maple tree, copyrighted by Nita Leger Casey
Large watercolor on board 19x24

New England has very old trees , lots of them are maples , this one was probably planted when the house was build in the late 1800 , or early 1900 , this one also has a maple syrup bucket and a swing on it . I found this house in NH a few towns over from where I live . This painting was part of my collection , but I decided to put it for sale , so let me know if you are interested in this large watercolor that depict the season right now , March! nlcasey@charter.net.

Twin sugar maples , copyrighted 2009
Pastel on board 5x7
My subject are all around me when you live in New England , few days ago a sugar maple farmer taped the trees right across the street from my house , they belong to the town , I actually have some huge maples in my yard also . I love to see the buckets every springs , you need warm days and cold night to get the best maple syrup , some area they have gone modern and simplify the process , they have this blue tubing going from tree to tree and to a big plastic barrel , it's just not the same ! I will need to catch the farmer picking up his buckets to take a picture of him . After you have had the real maple syrup , you would have a hard time going with that commercial stuff. Email me nlcasey@charter.net if you are interested , $ 99.00
