Cat in a napkin basket

watercolor 6x8 ©2014
Nita Leger Casey
This is my cat  Mimi who thinks she can fit in a small basket!  funny how cats love boxes, baskets and small places . She is not an easy cat to paint, her face being so dark and so many colors. This past week has been busy at my studio with four days open to the public,I got to see many patrons and collectors doing their last minutes shopping . Many paintings found a home, and that is good!  email me if you are interested in this watercolor ,you might have a cat that looks like her?  nlcasey@charter.net

Smalls fall, Rangeley Maine

Original Watercolor 6x12
Nita Leger Casey,©2014
When my son and his family came to visit this summer , we took a trip to Rangeley Maine , a beautiful town in the Western Mountains of Maine, right on a Lake. When you go to Rangeley you will pass a small town called Madrid , yes Madrid but not Spain!  and say it like the locals do, because they will correct your accent. There you will find this beautiful fall, very well visited by tourists  and a treat for daring kids who make the jump in the pool at the top, a mother's nightmare of course! I painted this in watercolors but my intention was to do a larger one later in Pastel .
This one is available email me if you are interested $100.00 matted .

Barn at dusk

pastel,9x12
©2014 NLC
Working on a new series of barns, most of them are large, this one is only 9x12  I wanted to make them a bit dramatic in colors, and simplify in designs. I already have four done and probably half of dozen more I want to do, will see where this takes me! I like some challenges ounce in while ,just wish framing would not get in the way of my creativity. also need to work on a few commissions . if you are interested in this one email me   nlcasey@charter.net

Lobster boat in the cove

pastel 9x12

Nita Leger Casey
Back from a week art retreat in Lubec, Maine where the Internet connection was not my friend due to a lot of fog and rain, Lubec is so far up North, you might as well being in another country  .  We did have a good week of painting and fun, the weather didn't stop us! This scene is in front of the rental house, a scene you never get tired of , love getting up in the morning, have our coffee and see the fisherman get ready  for their daily catch, also watch the fog rolling in and out so peaceful!  and I guess a week without the perfect connection was not that bad, except it kept me from blogging .

Watercolor 11x14
©2014 Nita Leger Casey
Wanted to keep working on my watercolor series of Seashore in Massachusetts while it is still fresh in my mind, I travel the back roads of New England all year and always come upon the most beautiful scenery and if I don't paint them right away it gets backed up and I loose the momentum of what I felt that day, the light the season the atmospheric feeling and so on . All my paintings are original, meaning I go to all the places I paint. I feel very lucky to be able paint in beautiful  New England. email me if you are interested in this painting ,it will be matted in a 16x20 matt.

Organic beauty

Watercolor 6x8
©2014
After working on two different  major projects for the pass month, I am back with some fun subjects to paint, I love animals and cows are one of them, growing up in France I was exposed to the country life every summer when my mother would sent me to my older sister's house who lived in a village full of farms, my job was to go get the fresh milk before breakfast from the farm next door, it was still warm by the time I got back at the breakfast table, and now I still spend part of my summers on farms in Maine where I paint the beautiful landscape. This one is from  the Tide Mill organic farm in Maine, they now produce the MOO milk sold all over New England. email me if you are interested

Not your ordinary house portrait

At one of my open studio a young couple came in with a request : If I would paint a house portrait on a Corvette hard top? not knowing what is was? I said that depends let me me see it, oh I have in the truck the young men reply, I said go get it then! after he came up to the 4 th floor with the car top, I said well never have done this but I will try my best, I always like a challenge. The story was they just had sold their parents house who had recently passed away and found the Dad's car hard top in the attic while cleaning the house for the sale, this will be a nice remembering of the house and the car. So here are some photos of the  project, Oh forgot to mention I also had to paint the car and the dog. They had provided many photos at different time.
The project is almost done , and the young couple will pick it up at next open studios

Vermont Sugar house

watercolor 6x8 ©2014
Tim and I have just spent a wonderful  couple days in Quechee to celebrate our Anniversary, a beautiful area  with lots of interesting scenery like barns ,covered bridges and lots of sugar maple farms, it is the season to tap the sugar from the maple trees you have a short window to do this, cold nights and warm days of course I love to see the buckets hanging from the trees but now in large farms they just use plastic tubing to be collected in large blue buckets, progress does not help my paintings! email me if you are interested in this watercolor . nlcasey@charter.net
