Spring in the city of Boston, watercolor ©2020
Framed 18x24
Another dream : My favorite time of the year is to Visit the Boston Garden, with it's pretty flowering trees, new green grass, seeing the people enjoying taking their dogs for a walk , people sitting on benches, all the nice things you see on a spring day. I always like to bring my sketch book there .
Well it looks like I will miss it this year, the quarantine has been extended. So we must be patient and safe !
This painting might be a good memory for someone who has gone to School in Boston!

Another dream, places to go without worrying, sure hope it will come soon, to be free to go where we want. The North End of Boston with it's rich Italian heritage, with wonderful bakeries and restaurants . I can smell the bread and the wonderful aromas that comes out of these places, as I am writing this.
So I will dream a little longer just to be safe !

In the Spring Tim and I went to Ireland , after being at the airport ready to go, waiting in line getting to the desk the airline said,oh your plane is not coming from Dublin tonight, it went to London, it will come tomorrow, a bit of panic, our ride had gone back home, a little talk with Air Lingus and they where nice enough to put us up at the hotel at the airport so to pass the time the next day I painted this scene in a loose style from the window of the 6 th floor, so perhaps someone had the same experience and would love a watercolor of the scene, here is your chance.email me if you are interested on this watercolor .nlcasey@charter.net

miniature sketch
Christian Science center in Boston, copyrighted 2012 Nita Leger Casey
I went to Boston today, planning to go take some photos, with the temperature dipping to a low 7 this morning it was a bit cold so I ended up going to the Boston Museum of Fine art to see the "Degas and the nude " the show is nearing the end ,so this was a prefect time ! a wonderful show, the Museum is so large now with the new addition I got lost a few times .It was really interesting to see a large body of work in one subject , many were sketches, I purchased the book with a 20% discount because it will close soon ,so that was good .
Before getting to the Museum while driving the Christian Science center caught my eye with the great light at the time, taking a few snapshots from the car, I later painted this miniature ,thinking it might be a larger one in the future.

Back to the watercolors , I had a couple weeks of diversions painting with pastel ,witch I like very much to do landscapes , and I love painting Maine !
Two weeks ago in the hottest day in May, I was at the Boston Garden spending time while waiting for Tim , I decided to take a ride on the Swan boats ,of all the years living here ,I had never done it , you never do tourist things in your own city, but sometimes we should . I took a lot of photos from the boat , it was fun! I later sketch a scene very similar to this one , but was not happy with it , it was so hot that day! today I tried again and here it is .

My weekly trip to Boston was great today , got in town early , as I arrived there I wanted to find out the name of a building I painted few weeks ago , the most beautiful building I have scene ,I feel very attracted to it every time I go in town and now I know why , it was designed after a French chateau of the Loire Valley where I come from , curious about the building I stopped and talked to two gentleman in the park and asked about it, they were very nice and gave me a bit of history , I later walked the entire length of the park on Commonwealth avenue and just admired the beautiful architecture on each side of the park , it was a beautiful sunny day ! I always enjoy talking to people who live in the area , lots of dog walkers also and got to pet lots of them .at the end of my walk , also got the see the dignitary of the city , the mayor was inaugurating a new bike path, i took lots of photos and now have more material to paint .

I am really having fun with these spring scenes of Boston , I am lucky I was able to capture the beauty of the city with my weekly trips in town , I always wanted to do this but never took the time . The second thing I am enjoying is painting with my watercolor , it's a medium I always loved and was using it mostly with my greeting cards illustrations ,and doing the plein air in other medium , and now with the good weather I know I will be doing more pastels outside. Galleries do not like to show watercolors ,they don't want to deal with the glass and framing , so being on line you can buy directly from the artist ,so collectors this is your chance .for an original painting , email me nlcasey@charter.net

When you visit Boston and you see what beautiful architecture was built in the 1800 ,it is a treat to visit these beautiful street of downtown Boston when most builders were artists themselves .I think this is why I love New England !The cities, small towns and country side are just an artist dream to paint.

Built in 1899 for attorney Albert C. Burrage. It was home to the Burrage family until 1947. It got converted into doctor's offices, later it became the Boston Evening Clinic, later still it became a nursing home and is now condos!
Similar to homes built on New York's Fifth Avenue, it was modeled after Chenonceaux, a chateau located in the Loire Valley of France, and represents the only example of the "chateauesque" style in Boston.
This striking building was designed by Architect Charles Brigham, who also designed the additions to the State House and numerous other buildings in Boston.
You can find this mansion on Commonwealth Ave at the corner of Hereford.

Took a few days off my wonderful series of Downtown Boston , I love the soft colors of Spring with this brown stone house on Newburry Street , I have a few more to do , but also other projects so I might not post everyday, commissions come first!
I have a challenge going with my artists Breakfast group , paint a scene working with only two colors , a few have done it already I probably will post the results later, it is amazing all the colors you can make with only yellow ochre and burnt sienna with white and black .
