Hollis Village

I live on the Massachusetts border with New Hampshire. The town closest to me is Hollis with tons of New England charm, so I must say it's always a pleasure to paint there. I have done this scene a few times,different style. I did one in Pastel, that was sold right away, also have done it in Pen & ink.

 I painted this awhile back, it was actually a demo to show an Artist group, how to use pastels and keep it loose and impressionistic. The medium is a bit messy but you really get nice affects.
This is a beautiful farm in our town, the Blood farm ! only a few farm are left in most towns these days, this one still has pristine pastures with rolling hills .

I took a photo of it last year. of course added some life to it by adding people, I love to paint these little Street scenes, I did many in the passed ,some still need a home .  This scene is in Lowell Massachusetts .

I was on my way back from the studio a couple days ago  and this very familiar farm I see daily said, please sketch me today! I love when my sketches are from that moment when it hits me like i have to do this now, so I did! a sketch is really a simple drawing and not trying to do every details, it can be a challenge for me as I love details .  Adding the white gouache gives you that cold feeling of the moment .

First I would like to wish all my followers a Happy New year! I think I have been blogging for 11 years now, how is that possible? where did the time go!
This past year has been a tough one for me after loosing my husband. I didn't get to blog that much, so many things I had to attend too.  I couldn't of made it without my wonderful family and my very supportive wonderful artists  friends.
Well we started this year with this very cold weather, and still going with a storm at our doorsteps . I wanted to challenge myself  with a new start with just sketching this month ,so here is the first one done from my window, enjoy!

 This Winter I have been in the mode of painting small winter scenes around town , I have painted the bridge a couple times before , but it was rebuilt since I did the last time.
 I was at one time very much involved with the beautification of the bridge, many in New England have  been neglected but few years ago this one was rebuilt with bran new timbers to meet the new code.  Very fortunate to live in this quint town in New England where my subjects are endless.

Another Historical building in the town I have lived since 1984 . Pepperell has so many old interesting buildings, at one time this was the Pepperell Academy circa 1834, it is now the Grange and I must say, a well attended building with lots of pot luck dinners , I always see the signs and lots of cars . It is good to see these old buildings still have a life in them !

I love this beautiful farm, this is the second time painting it, I just love all the buildings on this property, our three days there ,it snowed the entire time, it was so beautiful taking a drive in the snow finding these very New England like Christmas card scenes.

From the Southern Street scenes to the North, here is another street scene in New Hampshire in the lovely town of Portsmouth , a place I love to walk and admire the little shops and have coffee at our favorite place on the square, part of  our Sunday rides. Portsmouth has so much history, you can find houses from the early 1700 still lived in , one of the oldest port I believe. It also has beautiful galleries and restaurants. Lowell has Mills throughout the entire city, this one happens to be where the Brush Gallery is located, one day I was going there and the light was just right and wanted to do it in a really loose way, you know how I paint ! I have a way to ad too many details sometimes, so this time I stooped myself and left it  loose, I figured I got the light!

This summer has been so busy for me with projects on our cabin in Maine, traveling back and forth, that my time to blog has been minimized, I figured I needed a brake anyway, I started almost 10 years ago, I can't believe where the time has gone. Sometimes we need to change our routine!

I really love a busy street scene! Portsmouth has been a town where I have done a bunch of them,  loving this town helps ! Tim and I sometimes drive an hour to get there just to get a cup a coffee and sit outside and enjoy people watching, at the same time check out the little shops and galleries .

Happy 4th of July " Pemaquid "

I painted this last month on location at the Pemaquid lighthouse , I saved it to post for the 4 th of July week end, it just has that feeling of a family 4 th of July holiday visit to a famous lighthouse on the coast of Maine, I had fun painting this scene with some friends in a mini art retreat, we stay there in a beautiful Antique hotel  with other artists who enjoy painting as I do. Actually will be going back in a couple weeks with another group of friends, I just love the coast of Maine!
