Busy square in Portsmouth

From the Southern Street scenes to the North, here is another street scene in New Hampshire in the lovely town of Portsmouth , a place I love to walk and admire the little shops and have coffee at our favorite place on the square, part of  our Sunday rides. Portsmouth has so much history, you can find houses from the early 1700 still lived in , one of the oldest port I believe. It also has beautiful galleries and restaurants. I really love a busy street scene! Portsmouth has been a town where I have done a bunch of them,  loving this town helps ! Tim and I sometimes drive an hour to get there just to get a cup a coffee and sit outside and enjoy people watching, at the same time check out the little shops and galleries .

A painting I had on my drawing board for a while and decided to finish it , sometimes things gets to be put back in the back burner and you never know when you get to it !so many things to do at times.
I really wanted to make this street scene very sunny and I think I have achieved my goals .   
Well today I had a nice time with my friends who are all artists , some of them I have known for 30 years when they was only a few of us artists around the area .

Well ,we had a very gloomy day of snow and rain today, missed my Breakfast Club friends , we meet every Wednesday at Borders , have done it for years , the weather was just too bad to venture out today . So I painted and also spent a lot of time on the computer ,it's amazing how you can go from one thing to another and the hours just fly by .
This is another street scene , this time in Portsmouth , very old and Colonial , I painted this scene in a very loose style, harder than painting details .
This town has the most dog walkers of any town I know .

I was in Portsmouth, NH last Friday, in the late afternoon with my daughter and her family , we went to see a play at Prescott park, {Grease}it was fun ! before the play we had some time to spare so we walked the street of Portsmouth, such a nice old Colonial town, the old barbershop and the late afternoon sun made me take a photo of this quint scene of the past. I used to paint only in watercolor years ago , until the galleries decided not to represent most
watercolorists witch made me switch to oil and pastel, I must say I love all mediums as long as I am painting ,I am happy!

We just had a few nice sunny days ,to give us hope that Spring will come soon , but no such luck, winter is coming back tomorrow and the day after. On Sunday I took photos of different store fronts , this particular one was one of my favorite , love the color ,very antique look and the light was great , I didn't like the display, so with my artistic license I changed things a bit . If this store front could talk , it had plenty stories of different business , being close to the old port in Portsmouth ,one of the oldest community in the East coast. I had fun painting this little gem .

This is a watercolor from last spring when I visited Porstmouth, NH , its also a beautiful New England coastal town, and right now i am working on this genre of paintings with the brick buildings and different store front .
It was like a spring day today, what a welcoming change . We need it!

I was gallery sitting with a friend at the New Hampshire art association summer show at Prescott park , it was the first day of the show ,lots of tourists came by , it was a pleasant day meeting all the tourists from different States ,and I also took the time to sketch this scene from the gallery entrance.

On a sunny day in Portsmouth Last night after watching my friend Nancy paint in watercolor , I had the urge to do also. I used to paint mostly in watercolor until a couple years when I went back to oils after 20 years .You know how it is? we follow trends , I still sketch a lot in watercolor and do commissions work . People will often ask me ,what is your favorite medium? and my answer, I love it all! I guess it's like food, I cannot think of one particular food I don't like , and that believe me it's a problem!
This was a fun painting to do, I also was with a group of friends, and we all painted something different .

Portsmouth Kiosk

70 degrees today , it's a tease! of course my chickens were very happy to get out in the yard. I did manage to do my daily painting today even starting late in the afternoon after breakfast club meeting, and lunch with my friend Anna. I took this picture last month when I was doing my Portsmouth series, a little different for me I included some figures .

Stawberry Banke Historic district

What a beautiful morning with the fresh snow, As I was walking this morning early with my friend and the dogs ,I kept looking at the sun peeking through the woods and the beautiful shadows on the fresh snow , my friend said what are you looking at ? oh just shadows , my brain was thinking painting! It was only about 7 degrees while we were walking.

the Blue Victorian

Molly is doing a little bit better, she is resting very cozy on her bed while we are having one of our big snow storm of the year.I managed to finish the painting I started yesterday being my favorite subjects to do, Houses!of course, I love to paint many things ,but that seems to be me , sometimes I fight it ,but always go back to paint them ,ever since I was a little girl .

I love all the different colors in this one.

The old Colonials of the 1700

The days are getting longer, I think Spring is near, let's this storm pass and renew the beauty of Winter just for a few more weeks.

I wonder if the houses who are built today will last as long as the old Colonials in the back roads of Portsmouth, I don't think so...

Stawberry Banks Portsmouth, NH

Finished my third painting of Stawberry banke , one of the oldest village in the country , lots of tourist go and visit every year.

Named by the first settlers in 1630 for the profusion of wild berries found on the shores of the Piscataqua River, Strawbery Banke is rich with history: George Washington, Daniel Webster, John Paul Jones and John Hancock were all guests on this site.
