Rue Saint Catherine , Orleans , watercolor 5x7 copyrighted 2009
Nita Leger Casey
This is town where I grew up , in the center of France .
Orléans, the largest town in the middle Loire valley after Tours, chief town of the département of Loiret and the see of a bishop, with a university founded in 1309, lies in a fertile plain at the most northerly point in the course of the Loire. Its name is inseparably bound up with
that of Joan of Arc, the Maid of Orléans. Orléans is a lively trading town (agricultural products and industry) and a good base for excursions to the Châteaux in the Loire.
During the Hundred Years' War, in 1428-1429, it was the last French stronghold, then under siege by the English, but was relieved on May 8, 1429 by a French army led by Joan of Arc. This marked a turning point in French fortunes. A festival in her memory is held annually on May 7 and 8.
The town was badly damaged during the Wars of Religion and during the Second World War, but has since been rebuilt.

I just started this series and now I am going away for the week end visiting my son and his family , hope i keep my mood to paint more French scenes ,might a few different scenes in between . email me if you are interested

Quartier Latin , watercolor 5x7 ,copyrighted 2009
Nita Leger Casey

My favorite place to stay while in Paris, and like I said in the previous post ,this was the time of year I use to go to France. this is why i am painting France right now
The fabled Latin Quarter. This neighborhood takes its name from the Sorbonne, where Latin was the common tongue for all students during the Middle Ages. The neighborhood has the feel of a small village and students mix freely with professionals in its winding streets. The rue Mouffetard is a primary artery where shops, international restaurants and student bars and cafés are found.
email me if you are interested this is an original watercolor , the scene is from our last trip and hotel room in Paris .

"Sun going down the mountain" pastel 8x10, copyrighted 2009
Nita Leger Casey
I painted this scene last week in Maine while at the pond , at dusk before the sun goes down , it hits the mountain like paint brush , I sat there at the edge of the pond with my pastels trying to capture the scene , it was fun to do and had to be quick , if I had taken a photo I wouldn't of capture the same feeling , nothing beats painting plein air ! of course we can always do it, but i sure enjoy my times in Maine when I can . Today I spent the entire day framing for a local show this Saturday at Seasons at Calmore Antique and art show in Dunstable Massachusetts , This is my 5th year doing it , if you are in the area stop by.
