Hollis Village

I live on the Massachusetts border with New Hampshire. The town closest to me is Hollis with tons of New England charm, so I must say it's always a pleasure to paint there. I have done this scene a few times,different style. I did one in Pastel, that was sold right away, also have done it in Pen & ink.

I have not posted for awhile. It's not that I have forgotten about my blog, actually have been very busy with some commissions. Sometimes quickly posting on Facebook or Instagram is faster!Making a promise to myself to be better about posting . This winter so far, I have been lucky  to paint beautiful New England homes .The winter has been good as well and already have done a few local day trips to the ocean and towns that I like, to do some sketching .

Another dream,  places to go without worrying, sure hope it will come soon, to be free to go where we want. The North End of Boston with it's rich Italian heritage, with wonderful bakeries and restaurants . I can smell the bread and the wonderful aromas that comes out of these places, as I am writing this.
 So I will dream a little longer just to be safe !

 While at the Inn at our February Art retreat, Denise and I rented this beautiful room with twin bed and this is when I decided to do a bed series, I painted this one there, just a small one 4x5 .  I have many other beds to do, but also have to paint a few commissions in between, so it is taking me a little longer then I though. I have just spend three magnificent days up in these mountains doing plein air painting with wonderful friends, our third mini retreat .
Staying at the  beautiful Sunset Hill at Sugar Hill. 
The weather was great just enough snow to make this place magical. I mostly painted in watercolor , the previous years I had painted this scene in oil and pastel.

 An old stone Church  in a small village in New England !  from what I  hear was build by Irish emigrants, I have grown to love this little church part of my parish . Cottages comes in all shapes, some nicer then other, but I always see the beauty of a structure and  think of the lives who have lived there. Sometimes I go back to that same place and it is gone ,they have replaced it with big house,and feel sad ! This scene  of a cottage and Spanish Moss was in a small town called Bluffton SC, I couldn't find that little cottage again !

This is my latest commission  of a New England beach, the client wanted a scene where she use to take her children ,so for her it was to bring back memories to her house ! I had painted this scene  a few years back after visiting this beautiful beach on the coast of Massachusetts .

I painted these last winter during a snow storm, they came on my deck to pick at the berries I had for decorations, I was able to captured them and take lots of photos, they do not come often as they do not eat seeds, I was exited and bought some meal worms but they didn't come back.   This year I only saw one who had a very quick look at the deck, I have tons of other birds, I have a couple of cardinals that comes everyday,lots of chickadees,Titmouse and tons of Doves  and of course Squirrels that steel their food.

Another painting from my trip up North ,while it was cold and snowing, I still could paint under the deck of the Inn, i was all set up with my paper and palette ,as I was putting a wash on the paper  and noticed it turned to crystals almost immediately but kept on painting ,then the color was also freezing on my palette , it was kind of fun to see it ! working fast I kept on painting and later came in and watch my painting defrosted , I was left  with some nice effects on the paper ,I probably should of put some alcohol in my water and this wouldn't happened .

I really love a busy street scene! Portsmouth has been a town where I have done a bunch of them,  loving this town helps ! Tim and I sometimes drive an hour to get there just to get a cup a coffee and sit outside and enjoy people watching, at the same time check out the little shops and galleries .

Happy 4th of July " Pemaquid "

I painted this last month on location at the Pemaquid lighthouse , I saved it to post for the 4 th of July week end, it just has that feeling of a family 4 th of July holiday visit to a famous lighthouse on the coast of Maine, I had fun painting this scene with some friends in a mini art retreat, we stay there in a beautiful Antique hotel  with other artists who enjoy painting as I do. Actually will be going back in a couple weeks with another group of friends, I just love the coast of Maine!

Couple weeks ago the snow was finely melting around the coop,  I opened the door for the chickens to come out ,well they were so afraid to step on that snow, it  took two days for them to step down in the yard , here they are peeking and thinking about it! It was a long Winter to be cooped up you would of though they would of jump at the chance, but that is why we say : what are you chicken?

I am still on a St Patrick mode! I went trough  some photos I took on my last trip to Ireland and while I was gallery sitting yesterday decided to do this watercolor, I remember the scene well, my husband's family is from Kerry just down the road from this small beach. Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving, we sure did ! great time with the family and way too much food!
This past month I was on a sketch challenge with some friends and managed to do a lot of them ,the recent holiday did slow me down a little, also worked on a few commissions, now I am getting ready for two week end of open house at our Mill where I have my studio in Lowell . I was also in a couple local shows, never a dull moment here.
