Then I made a quick trip to Maryland to visit my son and his family
So now I need to get serious and get back to my routine of painting daily!

Lobster boat in the cove

Back from a week art retreat in Lubec, Maine where the Internet connection was not my friend due to a lot of fog and rain, Lubec is so far up North, you might as well being in another country  .  We did have a good week of painting and fun, the weather didn't stop us! This scene is in front of the rental house, a scene you never get tired of , love getting up in the morning, have our coffee and see the fisherman get ready  for their daily catch, also watch the fog rolling in and out so peaceful!  and I guess a week without the perfect connection was not that bad, except it kept me from blogging .

Bailey's lobster boat

Miniature  colored pencil
2,5x3,5 ©2013
Nita Leger Casey
While in Maine after a day of painting or touring I would work on a miniature with colored pencil, they were kind of fun to do. The colored pencil gives it a different feeling . This boat is always there after a day's lobster catch, I like to see  the fisherman's come back in their dory with lots of lobster boxes, they don't have time to talk much as they must  bring it quicky to the fish market.
Nothing is better than a Maine lobster!
this miniature is available, just email me for details .

Three boats in a row

Pastel ,5x7
(c) 2012
 Nita Leger Casey
I am preparing for a quick trip up North to the woods of New Hampshire with a few friends, catching some fall colors, when I took a bag out to take on the trip I found a couple pastels I had forgotten, I had wrapped them so well, I didn't see them.
I painted this on Campobello Island this summer, all the fishing boats were in the harbor, I think they were not fishing because the price of Lobster was so low, lucky me to have the boats there, it was a very hot day if I remember, so I quickly did the pastel on a board I had prepared myself, it has a lot of texture, I also simplified my scene, I did like the result!
this painting is available ,email me nlcasey@charter.net

Cutler village

9x12 Watercolor (c) 2012
Nita Leger Casey
The paintings I have posted are from my summer in Maine, The cute little village of Cutler on the Maine coast below Lubec. I have painted there at least once a year for the last 20 years, it has not changed! well maybe they don't have a store anymore so if you need milk or want a cup of coffee ,you might have to drive 20 miles for that ,but they have plenty of lobster! If you are interested on this painting email me nlcasey@charter.net

Red lobster boat

Watercolor 5x10 (c) 2011

Nita Leger Casey

One of the Lubec Lobster boats ,I have painted a few times before , but never get tired of doing them , I had posted this on Face book when I did it two weeks ago, and did not on my blog ,it gets a bit confusing posting at different places , I think I need a secretary to keep track of all the things I do , artists must do it all ! we don't make enough money for that luxury.

this painting is for sale email me nlcasey@charter.net

" Three boats in a row"

Watercolor 6x8 (c)2011

Nita Leger Casey
I have been painting a lot and having a blast with my friends, the weather has been great compare to the rest of the country, while I was painting this scene I had to put a fleece on to keep warm, ocean air is always tricky, warm one minute and cold the next. Also tricky is painting boats they are always moving.

Cutler fishing boats

I took a day off yesterday , had the pleasure to go with my artist friends to a American Watercolor Society exhibit in Gloucester, MA at the North Shore Art association where the traveling show is making a stop. It's always a pleasure to see the best of the best in watercolor. The weather was also beautiful , the location of the North Shore gallery is such of a beautiful spot, overlooking the harbor of Gloucester, so much history there! I really wanted to paint, I have painted in the area before , it's only about an hour from where I live.

I am posting a watercolor of fishing boats , I painted in Maine in the small village of Cutler
this was painted on location ,this village is very picturesque the fog comes in and out, I love to go there in the summer.
