I was looking through some of my past summers watercolor, and I remember painting this one , it had to be the cutest cottage on that street on the edge of the ocean , I am glad I did when I saw it, because the year after it had lost it's appeal, probably a different owner who didn't care about flowers. So when you see something that really speak to you ,paint it!
 This little watercolor would make a great present to someone who loves Maine !

This barn was located on the way to our rental house , in the back of it are fields of wild blueberries, the sun always hit it just right, I played on the extreme shadows and color, kind of like it and might do this one larger. interested in this one email me  nlcasey@charter.net

I am in Maine at my yearly retreat, the weather has been great! I know that everyone else is suffering from the heat, while I am posting this I  am wearing a hooded sweat shirt ,no air conditioner here!
this is my first real painting since we arrived, I have been busy doing a lot of sketching, will post some tomorrow.

I am re posting these boats because I painted them in the same time frame as my previous post .The house we rent in Lubec has a beautiful view of Bailey's harbor I have talked about before .The room that I share with my Friend Tammy has three windows looking at the view first thing in the morning and what we see  these three boats ,we see them get ready for a day of fishing ,they sometimes leave in the deep fog !  gone all day long as we are preparing supper one by one they come back ,not an easy life but I am sure they love it!

Small island at Bailey's mistake

Yesterday I posted a path going to a small island, here it is! at low tide you are able to access this small jewel in the bay of Fundy, a beautiful cove called Bailey's mistake,I have done it before in a previous year, it's not that easy! a few of my friends did venture and painted there this year, you just have to make sure you come back before the tide or you are there for a long while.  The chances we take when we paint plein air! but what fun it is.
This was done as a quick watercolor  vignette on an acrylic paper alsmost a canvas like, gives a different affect.

Here is another sketch done this summer before I painted a Pastel version of this scene ,yesterday it was a pencil one , I just taught I would show some of my process before painting some of my work , of course being a  very impatient person  I don't always do that and go right to the paint brush., this was the front porch where we were staying this summer ,a wonderful view on to a bay called Bailey's mistake  on the Bay of Fundy . Some great work happened right there on that table  when you have 8 artists painting away !lots of fun ...

In the small Lubec harbor you never know what boat you will see ,from lobster boats small fishing boats , sailboats etc... this one caught my eye in this warm day in July.

Pastel painted on Location in a foggy and cool morning while everyone else was baking on the East coast,I am back in land still in Maine but now feel what everyone was complaining about .At one time in my 200 mile journey back to my cabin in the Western mountains of Maine it was 97 degrees, very unusual for this part of the country .I must say we sure had the best two weeks painting in the Lubec area , a lot of new work done and took lots of photos .

I have been painting a lot and having a blast with my friends, the weather has been great compare to the rest of the country, while I was painting this scene I had to put a fleece on to keep warm, ocean air is always tricky, warm one minute and cold the next. Also tricky is painting boats they are always moving.

Another view of the barn, I was a bit fascinated with this barn, I actually did it from inside the house one day , it was in view from the porch , it's always a challenge to do the same scene but different time of the day and different angle , sometimes you do not to travel far to make a painting and not to be afraid to experiment with colors .

This is the beautiful view from our retreat, this spot is so beautiful we do not have to go far to find endless scenes. We did go in town today in Machais , because it is my turn to cook with my friend Tammy, we went one way and came back on the cost road via Cutler ,so many beautiful vistas it took us a long time to get home lots of photos to take , our meals are so good here ,no restaurant could come close to what we make here .

Week two is starting, some of our friends have gone and others are coming, we had a wonderful time , painted 16 paintings so far! I have painted in all medium ,not sure witch one I like the best , but one things I am enjoying this limited palette and plan to do more ,the scenes just around the house have been so beautiful, I have not had the need to travel for miles the way I have done before .

Same scene as yesterday from the house ,just using two colors , we had done a challenge in the Spring with my other artists friends and was telling them about it, so decided to show them the results, I went on to do a few more with my friend Tammy. the air was great ,the fog did go in and out ,what a relief from the high temperature in MA !

We are at our new farm house called Ocean Breeze , a lovely place and we are very happy,we had the last farm for 17 years , we are excited lots of new scenes to explore , we went in to town to meet old friends and see what was new , to our surprise two new restaurant ,a lovely addition to Lubec. Arrived yesterday under a beautiful sun, it took all day to drive here taking the coast road,stopping a few times along the way ,the best was to stop in Rockland and visit the Farnsworth museum, our yearly stop to see the show , always a treat to see new Andrew Wyeth paintings .
just went in town today to see what changed from last year,and just painted this mini as a warm up.

I don't know if everyone is like me ? but I am trying to finish my taxes , every year I say to myself I will not wait until the last minutes, and every year I am in the same crunching time ,you would think I would learn! so painting took a back seat two days in a row . Yesterday I attended the Art Breakfast club in the morning and at night I went to an art demonstration of a friend , you know you have to support each other in the art world , it was great so I am glad i went.
i am posting a painting i did in the summer past on the lovely Campobello Island , I go there every summer to paint . I am looking forward to go in August as usual. This is a larger painting, would like to find a home for it framed with a small dark wood frame , $400.00 a bargain .

Reflection to be the challenge for March , it will be interesting to see all the different reflections on DailyPainters today , this is a busy time for me trying to get my taxes done , getting ready for a couple of exhibits, one pastel show ,one group show , cleaning the gallery ,I would like to take all the paintings down and paint the walls a different color , a big job ahead of me !
I also want to do a book ,and I am having a hard time finding the time to do it all . Oh well, that's life !
