Surprise visit last night , our son and family drove up from Maryland for the fourth of July celebrations , we did not expect them ,they did not say a word ! very happy to see them , but today i did not get to paint , I have a feeling I will not do much in the next few days , so here is an older watercolor that needs a home , it would make a nice addition for someone who collects lighthouses , an original watercolor done on location , I go and paint there every summer .

Kingfield Pops at the farm

When I got home last night ,I had a pkg of new pastel paper , called Pastelmat from France , so today I was dying to try it out , I had a scene in my mind from the week end . Saturday we had gone to the Kingfield Pops , what it is the Bangor Symphony comes every year and performs outdoor in this beautiful farm land in Kingfield ,a town in the Western mountain of Maine , it's starts at 5 pm and goes on until 10 pm a real treat to listen to this beautiful music and talented performers every year , it ends with the firework . This is the farm where the concert takes place .
Going back to this new paper , I think I like it ! so I am sure I will use more in my next painting trip to Maine .

Back home after a great week at the pond , a well deserved rest , I did not do much! very unusual for me as I normally never stop ! I did manged to paint a little , the weather was perfect and enjoyed many rides in my Kayak , just observing nature at it's best .

Just another view of the famous Boston Garden with the Swan Boats,
Being in Maine and only working from my laptop , I am not sure the color of this painting is accurate ,I normally scan my watercolors ,this is a photo of it .
I have been doing a lot of reading , art books and magazine ,at home I never have the time so this week has been relaxing and only do what I want.
I will have plenty to do when I get home , I have signed a new lease for a Studio in a Mill in Lowell, called the Western Avenue studio, I am looking forward the adventure of having a studio away from home , something I always wanted to do , so I am giving it a shot!

When I was in Boston last week , I cought this little girl trying to get some baby duck's attention , she was the cuttest thing all dresses up, I knew she would make a cute ACEO or miniature , so this is what I did today. I am really taking a rest and just observing the nature around me this is my week!
Clancy and I have taken long walks also and he is having fun chasing chipmunks.

What a wonderful day I had today , Went back to the Boston Garden to take more reference photos of flowers ducks swans etc... while I was there by the famous Swan boats , I decided to ask a lady who worked at the gift shop if she knew the owners , and she pointed at a tall gentleman ,I asked him if he was the son of my husband's cousin , he was ! and said she is right there , Peggy who is 82 years old is still selling tickets there three times a week , I had not seen this lady for at least 16 years , so happy to have seen her again , I had fond memories of her when I came to this country 45 years ago . Exited to tell my husband about it ,after his Dr appointment I brought him back to the garden to see his longtime cousins , it was a happy reunion !
I am really getting to know Boston driving all over the place , if you go there the best place to park is under the common . When we got home I only had time to paint a miniature of Juliet you may read about them Romeo and Juliet who live in the Boston Garden .

I told you yesterday that two weeks ago I took a ride on the Swan Boats , I was amazed how reasonable it was $ 2.75 for adults and $ 1.50 for kids , that is one very nice thing to do if you visit The Boston Garden , and you won't break the bank ! a young couple on the boat were laughing how they had gone to college here , and never did this , I guess it's a joke between students to go on them , they grew up I guess! As for me I just never took the time , we lived overseas for a long time when our kids were small ! then we moved on the border of New Hampshire, the Simple pleasure is sometimes right in front of you , these boats have so much history ,check it out!
The funny thing of this story , is my Father- in-law's first cousin Margaret married the son of the family who started the boats , my husband told me when he was little he used to go free.
Also the famous book ,Make way for the ducklings was written from the Boston Garden .
So here is bit of History ! of the famous Boston Gardens .

Back to the watercolors , I had a couple weeks of diversions painting with pastel ,witch I like very much to do landscapes , and I love painting Maine !
Two weeks ago in the hottest day in May, I was at the Boston Garden spending time while waiting for Tim , I decided to take a ride on the Swan boats ,of all the years living here ,I had never done it , you never do tourist things in your own city, but sometimes we should . I took a lot of photos from the boat , it was fun! I later sketch a scene very similar to this one , but was not happy with it , it was so hot that day! today I tried again and here it is .

Another miniature from my retreat trip to Maine !
When you go away for a few days , so much work when you get back , emails to catch up with ,laundry, house cleaning , I sometimes feel overwhelmed , this has been my problem the last few days !
I am also in the process to get a art studio in an old mill in Lowell, called Western Avenue Art studios , a place where I could work with no interruptions, I will try it for a year and see how it goes , many of my friends are in the building so it should be fun also !

This was a miniature painted while at the retreat after the critique I also did a talk on the style and size of these miniature collectible also known as ACEO . I call them little gems , they can be matted and framed in a 5x7 frame . The Lupines where everywhere !

Back home after a wonderful three days in Maine at the yearly Pemaquid retreat for the Pastel Painters of Maine . This is a small painting done there on location ,the scenery of the coast is just beautiful beach roses everywhere ,Lupines in all the fields .
When you go on a mini retreat with other artists , you really have a great time ,we all learn from each other about different painting material and techniques ,the camaraderie is great ,we paint all day then share a great meal at the small restaurant on the edge of the ocean ,the lobsters are being caught right there , the sound of the light horn and crashing waves ,what more could you ask?
The first night I had the honor of doing the critique , a task with everyone being so good .
the second day we also had a very accomplished Pastel painter , Claudette Gamanche give us a demo and a talk about our passion .all in all it was great!

On the cost of Maine with the Pastel Painters of Maine at a retreat at Pemaquid point , just a wonderful treasure spot on the coast, staying in a Victorian Hotel ,it's like going back in time .This is my third year with the group,this year I was chosen to give the critique after our first day of painting, it was a lot of fun we are 25 artists.

I have these in my garden right now ! but already are drooping on the ground , they are beautiful , it's sad they last such short time in bloom .
My yard is looking so nice right now , lots of work to keep it up ,that is why I have a broken back after all the planting and mowing etc..., I went to a chiropractor for my very first time today , I was a bit apprehensive , a friend of mine recommended it, I told him I was going on a mini art retreat and needed help right away , he was very nice to take me as a walk in , it did help! Going to paint with the Pastel painters of Maine , it should be fun !
this is a lovely square shape painting ,would look nice if you are a collector of flowers .
