I want to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and hope you have a great day with your family and friends !
Our weather in Massachusetts was rain all day ,but I know many of you probably got some real bad one from what I see on TV .
My knee is doing better everyday and I really have taken it easy , I though I would paint more , but therapy and all little chores have taken my time. I am thankful for a wonderful daughter-in-law who is going to cook the big diner tomorrow . Happy Thanksgiving to all!

John Singer Sargent Challenge
Watercolor 16x20
©2013 Nita Leger Casey
Hi everyone , I am back!
The surgery went very well, three night at the Hospital , yes with pain but I survived ! I am home recuperating with the support of my family and wonderful neighbors who bring food take the dog for a walk and more, I am lucky to have so many nice friends .Visiting physical therapists who are putting me through boot camp, yes that knee has to bent more and more.... anyway I am doing fine, first day at the regular computer .
Before the surgery my art friend and I had decided to do a challenge in the watercolor style of John Singer Sargent , his show is now at the Boston Museum of fine arts, so here is my version I painted before the surgery, I took a photo of a Fountain in Savannah few years ago and painted it in a loose style . it was fun , hope to be back in a regular schedule of painting soon.
So enjoy my challenge !

© 2013 ,Nita Leger Casey
This one also from my last trip to France, I had met a friend at that corner restaurant for coffee.
This past week I really was tempted to paint the fall here in New England, it has been so beautiful but I knew I wanted to paint this one first and I forced myself to focus , a hard thing to do for me! Having a lot on my mine with my knee replacement surgery ,but all appointments are falling into place and now looking forward this new knee .
any questions ? nlcasey@charter.net

The fields of Gilman road
5x7 pastel,©2013
Nita Leger Casey
New England is at it's best right now! everywhere you look you see these beautiful colors ,it is truly an amazing show of natural beauty.I have been out of commission with a bad knee ,so this week end we stayed close to home, normally we are at our pond, I was lucky to see it two weeks ago ,this is the road going out to the main road ,i just love the long shadows.
Well it looks like i am getting a new knee , a bit scared of the process , many of my friends had it done and happy with it so I am going to look to the positive and forget the horror stories! so the next few weeks I probably will be posting some works that need a home . email me nlcasey@charter.net

Seen better days, in Maine
6x8 watercolor
Watercolor © 2013 sold
Nita Leger Casey
Just came back from Maine, after a nice week there, you can tell it's the end of the summer and fall is right around the corner a few picking colors here and there , we took a ride across our pond to find a friend who had moved when I came up on this old corner store who had seen better days ! over the years I have seen this country store with different owners, a little sad when no one can seem to be able to make a living there. Maine as a lot of these small places sometimes so far remote from populated area and yet needed by many! I decided to paint the poor thing in a watercolor ,maybe someone will recognize it. email if you are interested nlcasey@charter.net

Rooster with a good attitude !
Pastel 9x12
© Nita Leger Casey sold
I named him a rooster with a good attitude! because he is one of the few I know who is very nice , I can walk in front of him and not worry about my leg being attack , he is my neighbor's rooster and he comes and visit often. Today I was sitting on my deck cleaning my pastel box when I decided to paint him, I have painted him before in a smaller format .I really need to get back in my routine of daily painting , but I have enjoyed the summer doing other things, Life is too short not to enjoy this beautiful month of August.

pastel 19x24
©2013 Nita Leger Casey
After working on a commission all week at my studio that I cannot post yet because it is a surprise for someone who might see my blog. I was so dying to do this dog portrait, it had been on my list for awhile, this bundle who is 150 pounds is my grand dog Bradley, a Bernese mountain dog . I want to use him as an example for possible commission in the future, and before open studio in the fall.

My husband and I just attended a beautiful wedding ,my best friend's daughter just got married at this very nice resort in Massachusetts , the scene was spectacular! the table where decorated with these beautiful arrangements, at the end of the reception the person at each table who had the closest birthday got to take it home, I was the one ! This morning I made my priority to capture part of it on paper before they dyed , I choose watercolor to do it in a very loose style .The bride will get it when she returns from her honeymoon!

Humming bird flowers
Pastel,9x12
(C) 2013
Nita Leger Casey
I love this time of year at the pond where these beautiful bright red flowers grow at the edge of the pond , the Humming birds loved them! it's actually really called, Cardinal flowers,I imagine for it's bright red color ! Wild flowers are amazing ,so much beauty.
After a week at the pond and doing a lot of cleaning around the cabin I did take a break to paint the scene .The pastels stay in the back of my car so it's easy to take a quick break and paint something, that is our view that we have loved for over 30 years , I have painted this view so may times ,it always looks different. going home tomorrow I must get back to my studio at least for a few days, the Summer is so short , I am trying to enjoy every minute of it!
If you see any paintings in my blog that you are interested, please Email me nlcasey@charter.net
