Summer of sketchbooking

I have not posted for awhile, I sort of took a break from  daily posting, but never stopped doing painting and sketching where ever I went, back in fourth to Maine and a trip to Kentucky in August . I love sketching and just wanted of share a few of my summer sketches and when I was not doing that I was painting larger pastels of barns . Will try to get back in the routine with my new work!

Another small barn for my barn series , This barn is also in Maine, I go by it all the time on our way to our cabin ,the last time going I decided to finely stop there and take a few photos, we are always in a rush to get there, it is a almost five hours trip!
Back at my studio I painted  this little one and worked some colors I liked and already have a large one on the easel, hoping to have it done by open studios the first week of October.
Summer is just about over and now all the fall commitments  are here!

This was painted a couple years ago, but I would love to find a home for this one,this bell tower is located next to the lighthouse, a very popular destination in Maine. It would make a nice present for someone who collects lighthouses .

Working on a new series of barns, most of them are large, this one is only 9x12  I wanted to make them a bit dramatic in colors, and simplify in designs. I already have four done and probably half of dozen more I want to do, will see where this takes me! I have been taking a break from blogging due to my busy activities with family visitors and taking care of daily commitments . This was a painting I did in Maine couple weeks ago on location,this was in a cove across from the house we rented, just now getting to post it,  I have been traveling and spending time with friends and  family so my time has been limited, I have done lots of sketching in my travel ,went to Louisville ,Kentucky  a beautiful city and truly enjoyed the experience  of the true South ,people are so friendly !

Still painting scenes from Lubec after spending a week there, I never get tired of painting little street scenes in New England . While I was there I did mostly pastels but I do love doing a watercolor, I find it very relaxing! and yet today I went to my studio and painted a large pastel as well, I do want a new body of work by September for open studios  that is my goal!

The Blueberry barn

This barn was located on the way to our rental house , in the back of it are fields of wild blueberries, the sun always hit it just right, I played on the extreme shadows and color, kind of like it and might do this one larger. interested in this one email me  nlcasey@charter.net

Back from a week art retreat in Lubec, Maine where the Internet connection was not my friend due to a lot of fog and rain, Lubec is so far up North, you might as well being in another country  .  We did have a good week of painting and fun, the weather didn't stop us! This scene is in front of the rental house, a scene you never get tired of , love getting up in the morning, have our coffee and see the fisherman get ready  for their daily catch, also watch the fog rolling in and out so peaceful!  and I guess a week without the perfect connection was not that bad, except it kept me from blogging .

 Getting ready to go on my yearly painting retreat ,this is a scene close to where we are staying ,at the distance you can see the fog rolling in at Bailey's Mistake  in Lubec Maine.  It will be nice to smell the  fresh ocean air, and see the lobster boats in the morning with the fisher man going to get there catch!

I can't believe it has been over a month since I posted, things and events in life took precedent .
It started going to Maine and braking down on the highway and coming back in a tow truck , the worst it happen twice in two weeks. Then our kids came home from South Carolina and Maryland  with our kids here they all gave us a surprised 50 th Anniversary party  that was incredibly  beautiful , a lot work went in to it and our kids really fooled us ! we were extremely happy ,along with the 4 th of July ,I don't know where the month went? but I should be back at the easel ,starting with a week going Plein air in Maine .  This is a small gem I would love to find a home for it , $150.00matted . email me if you are interested . nlcasey@charter.net

I was away for a few days at our pond and painted this after a rain storm, I have painted this scene so many times and it's always different, when you look at a shy and water the possibilities are endless!
 We had a nice few  days there also did some sketch booking that was a lot of fun.
The next couple weeks will be busy for me, my daughter and family are coming up from South Carolina ,I have not seen them for a year so i am not sure when i will get to paint. this painting is available, email me nlcasey@charter.net

Just a ordinary New England scene where people walk and said Hello to each other passing by, the Spring bushes are out in bloom, The American Flag proudly displayed on this 1750 houses .
I actually painted this scene before in oil ,but had fun doing it in a loose watercolor.

Wanted to keep working on my watercolor series of Seashore in Massachusetts while it is still fresh in my mind, I travel the back roads of New England all year and always come upon the most beautiful scenery and if I don't paint them right away it gets backed up and I loose the momentum of what I felt that day, the light the season the atmospheric feeling and so on . All my paintings are original, meaning I go to all the places I paint. Spring at the beach! it was a beautiful day last Sunday at this beach on the Massachusetts seashore, I am sure the water was too cold for a real swim but enough to get your feet wet and get your tan an early start for summer. This past Mother's day Tim and I went for a Sunday ride to Rockport ,it was a beautiful very hot Spring day, all the flower bushes had peeked ,the light was just perfect, I had all intention to paint on location, but didn't expect that everybody had the same idea  to go visit the town, way too many people  to find the right spot. I did get some nice photos. I also wanted to paint the scene while it was fresh in my mind.
