Merit Award for "Sweet Face"

This past Saturday,it was an honor to received an Award for my Pastel Painting of "Sweet face "
at the 16 th International Juried Exhibition of The Pastel Painters of Maine.
It was at the Portland Library/Lewis Gallery.
 I don't usually post my large paintings on my blog ,that is why this one was never posted, I have a series of big cow faces in my studio, but this one is the cutest!

 After my recent trip to Pemaquid , I wanted to paint this little one. While I was there I did a watercolor on location ,will post it tomorrow ,but I always wanted to do an evening one.
That scene is about the hour my friends and I come out of the restaurant located next to the light house, it's always so beautiful with the light on, and many different sky behind, sunset, fog, many different colors and always different!

Painted this one from my last Ireland trip, she was at the B&B where we stayed right on the    Ring of Kerry, she had the most beautiful view!  they was about 35 other ones , she was not alone! and lots of sheep as well. I love the butter that comes from that area ,"the Kerry Butter" it is available everywhere now ,that is all I use .

Computer problems and traveling is not a good thing when you don't have the time to fix it between trips to Maine painting ,so I will post when I can ,it's not that I have not been painting ,I just need to get myself organized with  all this .

I just came back from Ireland  about 10 days ago and barely home I was off to a Pastel painters of Maine retreat, my yearly Spring one! We had a great week end painting with beautiful weather ,It was also very nice to see friends you have painted with for many years. Sketching in Ireland

To all my fans who follows me , I am still here ! just have been very busy with Life in General    we also just came back from Ireland after a wonderful week there, I did do some sketching that I am sharing with you .
 I always try to take my ink pens and watercolors, easy to carry and quick to do, the first two are while waiting for our food at some Pub, the one on the right is a scene from the Ring of Kerry , and the bottom one is the view from our B&B. Life is Good!

On the New Hampshire coast.

This past  Wednesday my friends and I from the Breakfast club ventured out to the coast for the first time this season, after a long Winter it felt good, the temperature was good but a little windy but I did managed to capture these few houses in a short amount of time before the wind got to me. Sometimes it is better not to fuss over a painting and capture the important elements of the shape and light, and that is what happen! I did not touch it after, otherwise I will ruined  it.

Couple weeks ago the snow was finely melting around the coop,  I opened the door for the chickens to come out ,well they were so afraid to step on that snow, it  took two days for them to step down in the yard , here they are peeking and thinking about it! It was a long Winter to be cooped up you would of though they would of jump at the chance, but that is why we say : what are you chicken?

We have been having wonderful sunsets lately, we still have snow on the ground ,but melting faster than I taught  after the amount we had,  but it is a good thing because I really want to see some Spring after such long Winter!

I am still on a St Patrick mode! I went trough  some photos I took on my last trip to Ireland and while I was gallery sitting yesterday decided to do this watercolor, I remember the scene well, my husband's family is from Kerry just down the road from this small beach. Just playing with some new pastels yesterday ,sometimes you just have to have fun!  also want  less details in my paintings so this was a quick one!
I want to go outside and paint  but we still have so much snow ,1 it will take another month to melt!  so for now I will play with different colors!

I have two sons who have trained me well, their love of old cars has rubbed off on me, when driving around New England I can spot an old car  a mile away. I took a photo of this one in a small neighborhood  where we had lived some years back. If this car could talk it would say: I can't wait for Spring ! because I am sick of being in this snow! and this was when we didn't have much snow , by now this poor car must be buried !

Blue bird and berries

The last few days during our New England snow storms, blue birds have come to visit , I have been fascinated with them and taking a lot of photos and sketching them, every year they do come looking for the Christmas berries I usually have for decoration on my deck .It was snowing like crazy and they had a feast! today I went to the feed store and got more food for them ,they like meal worms hoping this will keep them around.

The red shed

The last two weeks have been a real challenge living in New England, after receiving 6 feet of snow, I have spent my days cleaning and shoveling snow paths for my dog and a way to get to my chickens. We all complain about the snow of where we are going to put more snow that is coming !  but late  this afternoon  it was just beautiful to see the late sun hitting the buildings and long shadows  across the fields and then a beautiful sunset! I guess as an artist I see beauty in any weather!
This painting was done awhile back, it's a scene in Pepperell, I just love this little red shed!

Lonely house in the snow.

We have been snowed in!  We have had two major snow storm in a week , the snow is as tall as me at some places, today I had to go over a mountain of snow to get to my chickens, poor guys they will be cooped up for awhile.  Sunday we did get a nice sunny day so Tim and I took a ride to Plum Island off the coast of Massachusetts, it was beautiful and worth the ride, this lonely house sits at the entrance of the island in the marshland , I think it is abandoned ! I always feel bad when I see it, looks so lonely out there by itself, I am sure in the years past it was a beautiful place,if the walls could talk? I just painted a small watercolor ,this is the second time I have painted this house .I know one day it will be gone ! this small painting is available , just email me .

After the storm!

We just had a big snow storm in New England over 30 inches of beautiful white powder.  Yesterday while watching the snow falling, taking pictures of birds who came to the feeder by the hundreds, walking back and fourth to see how much snow we were getting, picking at food every time I went by the kitchen, a storm will do that to you!  So at one time I decided to sit and paint a  little and this is what I did, just a simple winter landscape!

It has been awhile since I posted, I had a husband with a bad cold, a sick chicken and extreme cold in New England left me a bit behind in my work !  the husband is fine ,the chicken didn't make it, but I must get back to my routine. I started painting this today,after the drawing was done I realized it was the wrong paper, I picked up a new paper on the market for oil painting,well watercolor does not work with that ,almost trashed it but after supper decided to experiment with it and used casein paint I think I saved it!  a lesson learn with the paper .This is a scene from Lowell very close to my studio . email me if you are interested nlcasey@charter.net
