Winter Moon

 I was looking through some older paintings and this one just hit me, because I  had just gone  outside with the dog and just saw the moon , except we have no snow,  9:30 at night, it's 51 degrees,and this is New England !  I remember when I painted this, I took an old farm house from a summer scene and created a winter one. I was just thinking about Wintah like they say in New England, well it has not arrived yet! I am not complaining, I am sure it will come, today was a raw rainy day, sometimes a snow storm feels warmer. So I was sitting at my drawing table just thinking about sketching a quick little snow scene, when I was teaching kids ,this one was one of their favorite to do.

Mini Blue bird

Last winter during a snow storm ,a flock of blue birds came on my porch to get some  winter berries I had in a big bucket , they actually have done this every year ,they only come for a few days and I never see them again . A few days ago I went in the yard to get some of the berries so I will be ready for their visit  when we do get winter, I know it will come !
I have many other birds that comes everyday, I just love them!

My studio is in one of the  old Mills in Lowell called Western Avenue Studios, The railroad tracks goes right by the Mill and trains often stops  right there for a period of time. So I  had the opportunity to paint a few of them. I came upon this house last winter while taking a drive on the coast of Maine , I just taught about  Edward Hopper at that time, it reminded me of some of his houses he painted , over the years I  have painted many houses that way, I called them lonely houses !

The Mill

Lowell has Mills throughout the entire city, this one happens to be where the Brush Gallery is located, one day I was going there and the light was just right and wanted to do it in a really loose way, you know how I paint ! I have a way to ad too many details sometimes, so this time I stooped myself and left it  loose, I figured I got the light!

Downtown Lowell

Having a studio in one of the old mills in Lowell, I have come to really love this Old Mill City full of History ! This week end alone we will have open studios  at our Mill the Western Avenue Studios from noon to five both days,  also a wonderful show at the loading dock gallery, called Winter Lights . Friday night  A wonderful gala at the Whistler Museum with an auction to help raised money to keep the Museum going , it is one of the oldest one in the Country!

I had all intention do blog more after I got back from my trip to France, well it didn't happen yet because I have many commissions to do before the Holidays .
Yes, we had a wonderful trip visiting my family and celebrating birthdays, the weather was great ,the food was excellent and just being with the family it was priceless! So happy to be back before this horrible attack in Paris ,these last few days have been with sad emotions and not knowing where this will take us. The world is in Turmoil!
 Good thing I am busy with all this work! Last year I had done the front of this house, it was all decorated for Christmas and now I am doing their beautiful back yard.
 Next I have a house on a lake so more houses to come....

A simple fall scene

Fall has arrived and it is beautiful everywhere,sometimes I don't know where to look, I spent a week at my cabin watching the colors changing everyday, but we know when fall is here Winter is right around the corner ,so enjoy everyday now!
I was asked to do a demo at the Hollis Art Association few days ago and this was the result, I was pleased with it, the audience loved it. It will be available at my studio in a couple weeks, as I am going on a trip.

This deer has been coming to my apple tree these last few weeks, not alone usually 4 of them ,but this one was watching me and kind of cute with an apple in his mouth.This year the apples have been plentiful. Coming to an end of my 30 days sketching challenge ,it has been fun!

Another Sunrise painted on location as it was happening ,it was still dark when I was doing it ,good thing I knew where my colors are on my palette,it goes so fast ! great time to be loose with your watercolors.  I am busy getting ready for our  Artoberfest ,http://westernavenuestudios.com/artoberfest it should be fun if you live in the area .

Pen and Ink sketches , a challenge for the next 30 days with my Art friends, sketching can be very rewarding and relaxing, the challenge is fairly easy for me , I sketch all the time ever since I was a small girl,it got me in trouble a few times when I would sketch on very important papers at my father's desk.
So to all my art friends ,keep on sketching!    

North Anson Tower

I am not too sure of the History of the tower?  I was told it was a "World war 2 "look out tower. It's located at a farm where I get vegetable in Maine, the building is so interesting, looks like a cross between a windmill and a  lighthouse, I always been intrigued by it , and for years it has been on my list to do,  it was a very hot day when I started  the painting, after I sketched must of the details, I went back to our cabin to finish it.
I will get more info on my next trip to Maine ,not for sale at this time, but please check my inventory of other New England scenes.

This summer has been so busy for me with projects on our cabin in Maine, traveling back and forth, that my time to blog has been minimized, I figured I needed a brake anyway, I started almost 10 years ago, I can't believe where the time has gone. Sometimes we need to change our routine!

Who doesn't like beach roses! they are a Summer's beauty on the coast of Maine ,they grow wild all over roads, walks, rocks...  the bees love them ! couple weeks ago in Maine the bees were feasting on these beautiful flowers.
