While at the studio today I decided to try this new aquaboard I had ,I bought this pack when I went to Savannah ,as you know me by now I am always ready to try something new , having a picture of my chickens , that would make the painting of the day! It had a different feel to it ,remind me of the Youpo paper ,the one thing is you are able to frame it like an oil .
It sure turnout to be a beautiful day today, I sure hope it continues .

Here is a mate of the scene yesterday ,down town Rockport , nice place to visit about now ,I always like to go in the Spring ,the little boutiques re open their doors for the tourists ,galleries put on new shows etc.. To my fans who follow me, I have been a bit sparse in my post due to my involvement in a couple of art shows , The breakfast club show at the Library ,my own Studio and the Whistler Museum , all this with a case of arthritis in my back and knees which has slow me down a bit, not fun getting older !

From my studio window I could see a little bit of this Gingerbread design at a distance ,so when I went home a couple days ago ,I managed to find this house in the back streets of Lowell across the canal , the sun was shining on it , perfect subject for me ! as I drive in town every day I see all those beautiful homes , some have been taking care by tenants who love them , and some have not! I think they will be my next challenge , I love old houses !

Spring is here ! the flowers and the trees will come out of their winter sleep and everything will be beautiful again! Mother's day, Father's day, graduations ,weddings and anniversaries are all around the corner ,and you may not have a present to give , what about a nice House Portrait , I have specialized in them for over thirty years, because I love architecture and always have, as a child I would draw a house on everything and get in trouble for it ,Like in your parents important papers !

I was framing this painting today getting ready for open studio next Saturday the 2 nd of April , just before I framed it I made some miner adjustments , I had painted this on location couple years ago and just put it away like many paintings I do, sometimes it is good to look at them again, you might see it with a different eye .They was a story with this painting, the flag is not always on this barn , but his friend had passed away and the man decided to put the flag up in his memory ,this was the story I was told while I was painting it in a very hot summer day in Lubec. Well the painting is framed now and it will be at my open studio . I think in every States you can find a nice little house abandoned just like this one, I always feel bad! it's like no body cared, they did not care of the History they left behind, fixed up they can be little gems . Maine has a lot of them I call them lonely houses, this one was in South Carolina where I just visited, the light was perfect on it and I wanted to capture that feeling of a nice sunny day .
All my work is original and go to great distance to capture these scenes .

Challenge painting for helping Japan , with DPW, Keiko Tanabe , go to the site for the auction .
Today I was thinking of what to paint for this sad catastrophe , and in TV I kept seeing the boats crashing like toys , looking at my photos I picked a Maine fishing boat , I see these boats every summer in Lubec and I know how hard they work on these boats .
All the proceeds will go to the red cross , so if you want to help, this is a great way to do it , and remembered by having a painting .

Catching up with my South Carolina and Georgia scenes , I must do them when they are still on my mind and keeping the excitement of my recent visit ,because if you wait and think you will do them later , later never comes because you have moved on to something else ,your mind has traveled to another scene another season or another subject totally different .
The snow is melting fast can wait for Spring ,lots of cleaning needs to be done , my Chickens have been going out free all day long ,they are so happy they leave their little house and never look back until dusk ,they are so afraid I might close the door they visit the neighbors yard , I am lucky to have neighbors who spoiled them also giving them treat .This painting is available email me for details . nlcasey@charter.net . A little store with Southern charm full of collectibles was my pick for today , it happens to be in the same little town of Bluffton , the name was easy , it was called the Store !
I wanted to catch a nice light on it , like a nice sunny day , in a very loose style .

while visiting South Carolina this past week end ,I took lots of reference photos of the Old South , the historical houses which I love , if the walls could talk in this little guest house !
The progress is coming to this little town , it has changed a lot in the last five years , I hope they keep the quintessence of it , many houses are razed to put a new one , and the Country side is growing with Gated communities .
I think I captured the Spanish moss on the live oaks , some of those trees are just beautiful .

I did not plan to journaling, but my daughter wanted to learn how to do it, so it was a good occasion to use this style while visiting and record some memorable moments , all you need is a pencil some watercolors , over the years I have done many books but not including writting just painting.
Going to Beauford today and celabrate our granddaughters sixteen birthday.

On a Holiday on Hilton Island ,relaxing and journaling spending time with the kids and Grand kids,going to Savannah for lunch! and the art store.
