In January  I took a drive along  the coast of Maine ,we barely had snow and now we are expecting a blizzard. On this drive I came upon this large cottage with the bottom windows boarded for Winter,but I just imagined how this house was waiting for it's summer residents to enjoy it's beautiful beach  with children running around ,people sitting on this wrap around porch enjoying the gorgeous Sunsets. OK, I am dreaming ! tomorrow we are getting 18 to 24 inches of snow, In March I know the snow will melt quickly and Spring will be here.

I painted these last winter during a snow storm, they came on my deck to pick at the berries I had for decorations, I was able to captured them and take lots of photos, they do not come often as they do not eat seeds, I was exited and bought some meal worms but they didn't come back.   This year I only saw one who had a very quick look at the deck, I have tons of other birds, I have a couple of cardinals that comes everyday,lots of chickadees,Titmouse and tons of Doves  and of course Squirrels that steel their food.

Another painting from my trip up North ,while it was cold and snowing, I still could paint under the deck of the Inn, i was all set up with my paper and palette ,as I was putting a wash on the paper  and noticed it turned to crystals almost immediately but kept on painting ,then the color was also freezing on my palette , it was kind of fun to see it ! working fast I kept on painting and later came in and watch my painting defrosted , I was left  with some nice effects on the paper ,I probably should of put some alcohol in my water and this wouldn't happened .

The Snug

 When I was at The Inn at Sunset Hill last month ,I decided to do a few inside sketches of the Inn ,they are always a bit of a challenge but I love doing them ,this one is in my sketchbook .
It is called The Snug an old English still pub!  We had a nice dinner in that room ,nice food ,great company and great laughter .

I was in New Hampshire  couple years ago at my favorite place at Sugar Hill when I came upon this scene of a Coke machine at a closed Golf course house, I taught it was a bit funny! what came to my mind was "Ice Cold " and this would make a nice painting, so I did a large one !
   18x24 in pastel ,it was part of my show last Spring at a Gallery in Massachusetts. I framed it in a black plein air frame, I do get lots of compliments for it,but would love to find the right home ,if you are interested email me nlcasey@charter.net

Another Historical building in the town I have lived since 1984 . Pepperell has so many old interesting buildings, at one time this was the Pepperell Academy circa 1834, it is now the Grange and I must say, a well attended building with lots of pot luck dinners , I always see the signs and lots of cars . It is good to see these old buildings still have a life in them !

I love this beautiful farm, this is the second time painting it, I just love all the buildings on this property, our three days there ,it snowed the entire time, it was so beautiful taking a drive in the snow finding these very New England like Christmas card scenes.

In the winter, I do love to take some drives around my town after a snow storm! and always try to capture some Winter beauty, on this drive last month I did just that. Living in New England I never run out of subjects to paint, this old school house always has been one of my favorite ! Just think of the grandparents who told stories when they went to school walked miles and miles  through the snow to get to school! 
I decided to paint this one in casein an old medium, like an opaque watercolor or gouache , easy to get fine details, sometimes doing details relaxes my mind!

It has been a longtime not posting, and I have missed my daily painters family. After my Spring show at the loading dock art gallery in June, I needed  to spend quality time with my husband who was battling lung problems, so we spent our summer in Maine and enjoyed the beauty around us, fall came and he was diagnosed with lung cancer and was given a few years ,but alas it didn't happen, the day before Christmas he passed away. So my painting took a back seat so to speak. Last week I decided to go out and paint with all my very good friends at my Winter favorite place to paint, it was certainly a good feeling! I am so lucky to have the best of friends who are so supportive.

After a week or more not painting I was dying to go to my Studio and make a painting , of a scene I  have been wanting to do for awhile, I have painted this neighborhood before in a watercolor, not the exact location, but this is a great place to paint,  a lot of the houses are from the 1700 .I really love this town of Portsmouth NH .

To all my followers,I am still here! these past couple months I have been very busy working for a show I am having at the loading Dock gallery in Lowell,MA.  All the paintings are larger work then small daily paintings so I  was reluctant to post them on my blog, but here is one of an old Sardine factory in  Lubec Maine ,a place I  have gone painting for many years.
 This month I am in the LDG gallery in Lowell with a dozen paintings, I also have three paintings at the Whistler Museum of art in Lowell,Ma.  I also have a painting in Portsmouth NH at The New Hampshire art association  with the Pastel painters of Maine . For over twenty years, My friend and I drove to Lubec,Maine every summers  rented a farm house and painted there for two weeks. We got to know the town very well and it's wonderful people who live there. We got to paint all the back roads, fishing spot, boats and lobster shacks, including all the lighthouses and wonderful State parks. last year I didn't get to go,and really missed it. I am hoping to make a short trip there this year!

Busy square in Portsmouth

From the Southern Street scenes to the North, here is another street scene in New Hampshire in the lovely town of Portsmouth , a place I love to walk and admire the little shops and have coffee at our favorite place on the square, part of  our Sunday rides. Portsmouth has so much history, you can find houses from the early 1700 still lived in , one of the oldest port I believe. It also has beautiful galleries and restaurants.
