Cannon Mountain from Sugar Hill

Cannon Mountain from Sugar Hill   Sold
Pastel 11x14 ©2020 Nita Leger Casey

Yesterday I posted about being in South Carolina, but the week before I was at a painting retreat at  The Inn at Sunset Hill in New Hampshire . Having a great time with all my Artist friends,10 of us who have gone there for many years, and just love this place. A place we can relax and step outside to do Plein Air and forget about the rest of the world, end the day with a great meal, a glass of wine and telling wonderful stories. We did get some news about the pandemic in Europe, but seemed so distant and it would never affect us, little did we know it was coming !
The view from the Inn is just beautiful and changes by the minute of the day, this was when the sky was changing at the end of the day and managed to capture that little pink in the sky.
This painting is available , $300.00 .email me for details nlcasey@charter.net

Mount Lafayette

Mount Lafayette,NH
Pastel  5x7©2016 Nita Leger Casey .
About five years ago I went painting with a group, it was called Snow Camp ! Stapelton Kearns was our teacher, and believe me it was cold 14 below 0, I did couple oils from that location on Sugar Hill. It was great fun and a big challenge not to freeze to death! So this morning I was looking at the painting that was done on location and decided to paint it again ,in a small format and different medium. When I came back, I remember everyone saying did you paint freeze? FYI oil paint does not freeze!

View from Sugar hill Inn
oil 16x20 (c) 2011
Nita Leger Casey
Went to the studio today and touched up a painting I had done a year ago in Plein air at snow camp with Stapelton Kearns , with temperature 14 below 0. sure was cold !
It needed a few touches here and there, I like it better now, I figured I better do this now as I am going back there in a few weeks, I think it will be a reunion , It will be nice to see some old friends and talk shop . Stape is so knowledgeable about art history, it's a pleasure to listen to him at night while we are all sitting around the table .
We are waiting for some snow here , seems like the South is getting all the snow this year .

It has been a few days since I posted , the good weather arrived and I got distracted , also comes the many chores of cleaning after winter , when the snow melts , it's not pretty out there , lots of work in the yard . Yesterday my friend Margrit came up from the Cape , I was very happy to see her , so we celebrated with a quick trip to Mason NH to Parker's maple house , it used to be one of our favorites years ago to make the trip and take pictures of all the buckets on the trees , it must be a good year , they was hundred of buckets everywhere ,we also had a wonderful lunch there , lots of things made with maple syrup .
This is a true New England experience .

Shadows on the road , oil miniature (c) 2010
Nita Leger Casey
When you drive in the back roads of New Hampshire ,this is what you see , lots of shadows crossing the roads , lots of snow banks and sometimes some colorful foliage, it sure made me stop to take a photo . It was another very nice day today , I tried to find a place to paint in plein air,, but all the places I wanted to paint , they was no way to park my car for a long time , so i contented myself just to take many photos of the beautiful winter landscape , later Tim and I drove to visit some relatives we have not seeing in a long time , all in all a good day !
