Humming bird flowers

Pastel,9x12
(C) 2013
Nita Leger Casey
I love this time of year at the pond where these beautiful bright red flowers grow at the edge of the pond , the Humming birds loved them! it's actually really called, Cardinal flowers,I imagine for it's bright red color ! Wild flowers are amazing ,so much beauty.
After a week at the pond and doing a lot of cleaning around the cabin I did take a break to paint the scene .The pastels stay in the back of my car so it's easy to take a quick break and paint something, that is our view that we have loved for over 30 years , I have painted this view so may times ,it always looks different. going home tomorrow I must get back to my studio at least for a few days, the Summer is so short , I am trying to enjoy every minute of it!

Busy Beaver #3 Acrylic version

Acrylic 6x6 . Nita Leger Casey (c) 2012
A different version as I promised , I was going to use oil ,but I just bought some new acrylics I wanted to try, I also wanted to use a limited palette of two colors only, I had done this challenge before and really liked the colors you get by doing this, the two colors are yellow ochre and burnt sienna and black and white , this limited palette really fits the season , as I drive around right now the landscape is really in these colors . I also changed the the format to a  square painting.and kept the work very loose and impressionistic.
email me nlcasey@charter.net if you have any questions , this painting is for sale .

Busy beaver # 2 pastel version

6x8 pastel  copyrighted 2012
Nita Leger Casey
Decided to paint the same scene in a different medium to give you an idea any scene can be done with a different choice of paint ,some colors are just stronger and vibrant, also have to be framed differently .
If I have time tomorrow or the day after I might do an oil also . The reason I say time tomorrow I have to take my husband to have surgery on his toe, he has diabetes this dreaded disease ! he was fitted for some special shoes and it was not done right, now he has to have surgery, he couldn't feel that the shoe was too small ,I wish they would find a cure for diabetes ,it is an awful disease to have .email me if you have any questions .nlcasey@charter.net

"Pond view " 6x6 oil on board ,copyrighted 2010
Nita Leger Casey
I went Kayaking last week end with my friends, the water was like a mirror ,the colors where very Spring like ,I just wanted to remember this scene that was so serene , I did not have a camera, always afraid I will dump it in the water . This afternoon feeling guilty of not posting I just painted the scene like a watercolor with oils with very few details the way I would use my watercolors .
hope someone will like it , email me nlcasey@charter.net
