Just had a small amount of time to paint this iris from my garden today ! Getting all my flowers ready for this week end is a lot of work , living on Main Street I must have my yard looking nice ,the parade will go by on Monday.
I choose to do this in Pastel , next week end I will be going for a three day retreat with the Pastel Painters of Maine .

"At the edge of the garden "
Pastel on paper 8x10 copyrighted 2010
Nita Leger Casey
I was invited to paint in a Garden at Seasons at Calmore in Dunstable today, it was a beautiful sunny day , many people came by to visit the gardens and the antique shop who was just featured on the front cover of Early Homes with a wonderful article {Spring issue} , a must see if you are on 113 in Dunstable ,the owner Mary does a wonderful job decorating the shop and gardens and also caries my small work . I painted two pastels witch I think is a wonderful medium to use when painting flowers and gardens , it was great to be plein air painting today ,a warm up for my trip to Maine in two weeks with the Pastels Painters of Maine .
this painting is available , email me nlcasey@charter.net if you are interested

oil on copper
Watercolor
This was a challenge we had with the artists Breakfast club in Nashua , to use two colors , yellow ochre and burnt sienna ,adding white and black as neutral ,because I initiated the challenge ,I challenged myself to do it in four different medium ,and this is my results , the scene was mine from my photo taken in Maine at the edge of the pond !
It is amazing how many colors you will get with this simple palette, you don't need to take a lot of paint with you when you go out painting .

Here is another view of this famous Boston Street, I had lunch there yesterday , after doing some sketching in the park one street over , I am really getting to know the city , something I wanted to do for many years , you know you never know the town you are the closest to ,because we have a way to take things for granted , and always in a hurry , my husband thinks he knows it yes, he was born here ! but it has changed since the 1940's .
Don't forget , collect art ,collect original art, you will never be disappointed , it will make you happy !

My weekly trip to Boston was great today , got in town early , as I arrived there I wanted to find out the name of a building I painted few weeks ago , the most beautiful building I have scene ,I feel very attracted to it every time I go in town and now I know why , it was designed after a French chateau of the Loire Valley where I come from , curious about the building I stopped and talked to two gentleman in the park and asked about it, they were very nice and gave me a bit of history , I later walked the entire length of the park on Commonwealth avenue and just admired the beautiful architecture on each side of the park , it was a beautiful sunny day ! I always enjoy talking to people who live in the area , lots of dog walkers also and got to pet lots of them .at the end of my walk , also got the see the dignitary of the city , the mayor was inaugurating a new bike path, i took lots of photos and now have more material to paint .

In the past year I have two friends Ingrid and Susan who have painted on copper ,and I wanted to try this new surface , I knew I had some in the basement , I must of bought 20 years ago for some other project, looking for something else in the basement I came across the copper , a bit out of shape but managed to get it back in to shape and painted this scene from memory , a place I often paint in the summer . I was surprised how it went so nicely on the surface .I am not an expert on this, it was a trial , Susan Renee Lammers has done some nice paintings in Arcadia National park. Ingrid Christensen also has painted beautiful portraits on copper . They were two nice artists I had the opportunity to meet and spend time with last years. There is not much I have not tried when it comes to art . In a future post I will have to think of what medium or surface I have not painted with . To be continued .....

The sun was shinning so bright on of my front garden , I couldn't pass the opportunity to paint this scene ,of my beautiful parlor window, I feel so lucky to live in a old house in New England ! the Spring only last a couple weeks ,so they was no time to waist , with the lilacs in the background the fragrance is unbelievable.

Wanted to get back to my series of downtown Boston , I took a break , I had some commissions and of course Mother's day . With the good weather there is so much to do in the yard ,mostly cutting the grass , but over the years this yard is getting bigger to me , I have not planted yet as we still are getting some cold days .
I would like some serious collectors who appreciate an original watercolor , please email me nlcasey@charter.net, my work is very affordable and will only gain value , I am a serious artist who has painted for many years and has won many awards .see my accomplishment

I went Kayaking last week end with my friends, the water was like a mirror ,the colors where very Spring like ,I just wanted to remember this scene that was so serene , I did not have a camera, always afraid I will dump it in the water . This afternoon feeling guilty of not posting I just painted the scene like a watercolor with oils with very few details the way I would use my watercolors .
hope someone will like it , email me nlcasey@charter.net

I had to brake from my mode of the watercolor series I have been painting , and take the pastels out , I don't usually do the house portrait in this medium I actually prefer doing it in Watercolors but this was a special request, I still have a few hours of work on it for some details of windows door and the rocks .
Well this is a good example if anyone would be interested in a House Portrait , email me for the details . nlcasey@charter.net ,

I am really having fun with these spring scenes of Boston , I am lucky I was able to capture the beauty of the city with my weekly trips in town , I always wanted to do this but never took the time . The second thing I am enjoying is painting with my watercolor , it's a medium I always loved and was using it mostly with my greeting cards illustrations ,and doing the plein air in other medium , and now with the good weather I know I will be doing more pastels outside. Galleries do not like to show watercolors ,they don't want to deal with the glass and framing , so being on line you can buy directly from the artist ,so collectors this is your chance .for an original painting , email me nlcasey@charter.net
