This is a miniature painting alla prima study for a larger one , that is about the short time I have to work these days with my busy life . I painted a pastel on location Plein air last summer, and always wanted to do an oil . May I tell you it is snowing again! I am not painting another snow scene no matter what . Next week I will be at a different location with new landscape .
This was a demonstration I was to do tonight for the Chelmsford Art society in Massachusetts, but it is snowing like mad right now and we had to cancel , I was really looking forward to see some familiar faces in the group , Sorry! next time .
This past week has been a challenge for me with a trip to Portland, the kitchen project, snow storm, family and more . I think this coming week will be the same , the cabinets are up , now I am painting the walls , I have changed the color twice already I can't make up my mind , the color looks great on the small swatch but on the walls looks terrible , as an Artist you would think I knew better. I will a guest speaker and do a demonstration for the Chelmsford Art society on Tuesday , I think I will talk about daily painting!

I am lucky I finely could get to my computer, the kitchen cabinets arrived today and took over the gallery , my paintings were burried , it's a good thing I painted this scene last week . I had stoped to take pictures of some ducks by the sea shore coming back from Plum Island when this bus was bringing the children home from school , camera on hand , it was perfect ! the sun was going down ,the shaddows on the road were very strong , a painting was to be made .
Last week I had taking a quick trip to Plum Island for a drive , it's about an hour from my house , a great way to get to the ocean and visit Newberryport ,MA in the same time . A lovely town with art galleries. This painting is from my last trip there , I made it a bit more a fall day then winter, but I have been there at that time so I know what it looks like, they always have the stacks there from weeds from the march.
This is what it looks like everywhere in New England right now , cold and icy but beautiful sunrise and sunset. I do want spring to come soon, as much as I love winter , I am done with it!
This was really my valentine's rose , painted during the terrible ice storm we had yesterday , woke up this morning to 5 inches of ice so frozen ,and not able to move . Oh well, it is New England and we should be used to it , but we got spoiled the last few years with mild winters.
I was just watching the news this morning , when the results of the Westminster Kennel Club dog show was on and Uno the beagle was a winner. This is my friend Max , I watch him when his parents go on trips , I love this guy! I have been taking care of him since he was a puppy ,this is his second home and gets along good with my Clancy ,anyway he is my numero Uno and to his mom Anna also .
I painted this scene the last trip I went to see my mother before she passed away ,It had been a long time since I had seen snow in France . My nephew and I walked the intire village ,This small tourette stands in the entrance of the town , and I really didn't know why ? until my nephew said it used to be an old toll station , in the old days you use to have pay a tax if you were bringing livestock into the town. When you grow up you take all the history of the past for granted. we always learn something !
Took a few days off posting due to a major kitchen project ,another couple weeks before it will be all done . I did managed to paint a couple paintings during the week after a short trip to Plum Island just to regain my sanity, I love to go to the ocean when I am so stress with work . I will post them later when they are dry. email me if interested nlcasey@charter.net
This is another of my series , this house was in walking distance to my mother's house , I always enjoyed passing by this little week end farm during my morning walks.
Voila , a typical petite ville de Sologne region ,it is about a hour and 15 minutes south of Paris .
Spring is always a pretty time ,In France it's always a bit ahead of the spring in New England ,
I just love the red clay roofs in France ,they are such a beautiful rich earthy color. This was the next village where my mother lived, One day I would like to go back as a tourist painter , I would spend weeks and weeks there with so many obligations to all my relatives and no time for myself. I could paint Plein air every day in this small town .It's on my list to do!
Remodeling is still going on , just finished the demolision , the kitchen is all apart sitting on the deck right now ready to go in a dampster, what a job! but while doing all this work ,my mind is on my next painting ,so for now I am posting some of my watercolors .
In France most poeple in rural towns dry their clothes and sheets and tablecoths on the line outside , a great way to conserve energy! off course the new mothers of today do have dryers .5x7 watercolor mated with an acid free to an 8x10 email me nlcasey@charter.net
