Saving energy!

When I was a child  in France we surely didn't have clothes dryer, actually never heard of them!   after visiting my family in recent years , to this day very few people use them. Electricity is very expensive and most people still hang the clothes out, the smell of clean laundry from the fresh air is so much better, funny how clothes dry even in a cold frosty day, you bring the clothes in stiff as a board ,a few minutes in the house they are fine .
Well this is a house I captured in my travels in a small town in NH .
The light was just right and the clothes just said it all, I painted this a while back and would like to find a home for this gem!

In a rainy day , what do you do ? well ,laundry and hang it out on the porch! this is what I did today ,well painted today. when the rain stopped I took a few walks with Clancy ,picked fresh berries and enjoyed the woods of Maine , by the end of the day it cleared up and went for a Kayak ride on the pond .

Going home tomorrow ,I must gallery sit on Friday at Western Avenue studios .

While painting in Maine I really zoomed on laundry lines ,everywhere I went in the small back roads everyone had their fresh wash out , they're something so nostalgic about it , remembering growing up ,that was the only way we dried our clothes and it used to smell so good . This new generation will never know this feeling unless you still live in Maine , like the saying go " the way life should be " .

Another wash day , it is funny when you zoom in a subject you see it everywhere, this week it has been laundry. Today it was very hot here in Lubec, unusual for this part of the country I really had to push myself to do anything but I did manage to do a couple of painting.

One day I was visiting a friend at this small camp site in Maine, where they also had small cabins to rent , the owner just had finish the morning wash , how often do you see this these days ?I was really trilled to have captured that moment in time, all my paintings are originals and all my referenced if not painting plein air painting have been calculated with my camera first. Spring is here , I think! I know in other parts of the country it's been nice for awhile , but here in Massachusetts we must wait a bit longer . This scene of fresh laundry on a porch made me put the brakes on my car to take a photo and later do a watercolor of it , most places you don't see this scene , but in Maine it is an everyday thing , and who does not like the smell of fresh laundry ? email me if you are interested nlcasey@charter.net
