Just a view into my world ! I love old houses as you must see in my work if you have been following me for awhile they are my favorite subject, they have character I cannot described, I see one a mile away I will stop my car in a dime just to take this special photo, I feel sorry for the person behind me, they honk the horn give me the finger and so on, but I don't care I want to capture the moment, I should have a sign, I brake for old houses! this one is in Lowell the series I am working on now.

Went to the studio and had a good working day, planed a medium size painting ,the drawing is done, it will be for my show in November. I cleaned the Loading dock gallery, it was my turn for the duty, that place is big, got my exercise doing that, went back upstairs and painted this scene, it was on my list for sometimes, i love those little store fronts of restaurants on the coast of Maine , this one I think was close to Kennebunkport.

This is a scene I painted last year from the stairwell at our Mill where I have my studio , from many of windows I have a wonderful views of the city and this is my project this year to paint many different scene from this city with a lot of history and character .I will have a show at the Loading dock gallery in November .

Today I went to the studio all exited because I wanted to paint a large scene, I had it all drawn out the day before, so I was ready to go with the paint, I wet the paper, big mistake it was a bad sheet of paper probably was not sized right, the water went right through, color bleeding all over, it was like a sponge, I was so mad I had spent all the time for nothing second time this has happened to me and always when you are working on a big sheet, decided not to get upset and painted something totally different and cheerful, I will pursue the street scene again with the right paper.
My brother-in-law made this bird house for me after I drew a simple plan for him , it came out so nice and my birds love it and the food stays dry .

I had taking a photo of this cute cottage somewhere on the coast of Massachusetts, what better time to paint this in a snowy day, it's one of these small place that are closed for the winter, but you can still imagine the fun a family would have there .I just loved the heart on top !

I was gallery sitting today at the Loading dock art gallery and decided to work in a interior ,something I don't paint often.
This is a salon we have at the end of the hallway at our mill and every time I pass by I am always intrigued by the strong light that comes in, it has been decorated with very artsy details of different artist in our floor , my goals was to capture the light and I think I did that !
We just had a wonderful opening of a new show tonight and tomorrow we have open studio .

I went to Boston today, planning to go take some photos, with the temperature dipping to a low 7 this morning it was a bit cold so I ended up going to the Boston Museum of Fine art to see the "Degas and the nude " the show is nearing the end ,so this was a prefect time ! a wonderful show, the Museum is so large now with the new addition I got lost a few times .It was really interesting to see a large body of work in one subject , many were sketches, I purchased the book with a 20% discount because it will close soon ,so that was good .
Before getting to the Museum while driving the Christian Science center caught my eye with the great light at the time,taking a few snapshots from the car, I later painted this miniature ,thinking it might be a larger one in the future.

After a wonderful two weeks of Holidays, kids family and colds, today Tim and I decided to go for a drive and get some fresh air. I really wanted to paint something today being the first of 2012. The weather was incredible 50 degree for Massachusetts on New Years day , awesome! so here is my first painting of the year a nice New England barn .

Took my grandson Carson to the studio today, I had a photo of Sugar Hill where I have gone painting before during snow camp and I always wanted to do it this little scene , today was the day ! he sat next to me and painted the same scene , he was so cute ! he is so observant I am really impress with him, I got him his own easel and box combination ,so he is all set!

I have not gone away, just down with a bad cold and the Holidays, on the good side, I was very happy to have all my family all together this Christmas 14 of them, it was a house full and still is ,
a few have gone back to South Carolina, Grand son Carson my little artist is getting me going again , Let's paint grandma ! the only trouble is the studio at the house is a mess with everyone here , but we will try to get back in the routine .
This painting was done last year at snow camp in NH, no snow here in Mass this year ,it was 46 degree this afternoon,strange December but it's OK ,we will pay later I am sure!

These little guys come at my feeder everyday, they are very cute ! I know one thing birds like good food, forget the cheap grain stuff ,we bought some and they are snobing us right now and going next door, I had told Tim don't get the cheap one, I guess it will take a trip to the store tomorrow .
I had a wonderful day with my friends today at Breakfast Club, all of us are artists! we had our regular meeting of networking and critiquing paintings, after we went out for yearly Christmas lunch at an Italian restaurant ,some of us have been friends for over 20 years .

Happy to say I did not go out on Black Friday , We had a wonderful Thanksgiving day yesterday with the family ,today I just wanted to stay home and work on my art for our own two week ends of Holiday market place at Western Avenue studios , I am making beautiful Paste paper for scrapbooking , journaling , or collage also making some small watercolor Books , all this kept me busy most of the day , went outside for awhile to start winterizing the chicken coop ,they have been so happy to be loose in the yard with this beautiful weather we had all day .

From my last trip to Boston last week when we went to the International show , when we came out of the Cyclorama ,the sun was setting on the city, the light was just beautiful, the people going home from work where creating these long shadows , I think I have recreated that scene !

I had a busy week end of mostly Art socializing and not painting , started with a visit to Newburry street ,visited the Copley Society, the Guild of Boston then on to the Cyclorama to the Boston International fine art show , all were great I saw so many beautiful paintings that would take your breath away the prices with it . I was with two other friend so we had a great time , the next day it was the opening at the Wistler house Museum where I had a painting juried in , there again beautiful art work and great friends some I had not seen in years , to end the week end this afternoon we had a pot luck dinner at the studios ,great food and company ! all this they was no time to paint I did managed a few photos while in town .

When I was a young , This castle was one of my favorite to visit with my family , at the time not so much for the castle itself but the gardens and the fish ponds , they used to have the biggest red fish in it , I only lived about an hour from it ,so it was a Sunday ride or a school field trip , the inside is just beautiful! Monday while in Maryland I took a drive with my grandson to take some photos , we were right on the Mason and Dixon line so at times we where in PA ,and sometimes in Maryland , we took lots of photos , we came upon this scene that was so picturesque with all the geese in the small pond , I knew I would paint it , and that is what I did today at my studio after being away for a week it was nice to be there again , this Saturday we are open so if you are in the area ,come by!

Carson and I found this cute little one # 76 in a pasture during our photo shoot expedition, all babies are cute!
Carson was so exited to find all the animals we took pictures of that day . I really had a wonderful time with my grandchildren .
Well I must get back to reality ,open house this week end at Western avenue studios .
our area looks like a war zone after the storm this week end , 70 percent of the people don't have power in our town , we are the lucky ones ,but my poor yard is a disaster,lots of work ahead !

This sketch was done from my kitchen window at my son's house , I was having my breakfast when all I could see was these beautiful shadows across the street, so the sketch book came out at that time ,I think I captured the scene the way I wanted .This afternoon I took Carson and we went for a photo shoot of all the beautiful farm around,we had a lot of fun finding some beautiful places , laundry lines with Monday's wash ,cows sheep and lots of duck and Geese .
He said on our way back ,it was a lot more fun then I thaugh .he took 75 photos ,he is 7 years old

My grandson and I went out painting this morning in a very rural part of Maryland with beautiful farms and rolling hills,mostly Mennonites families live in the area, it was nice to see them all dressed up coming out of church this morning.One family was worried about us just parked on the side of the road, they stopped and asked if we needed helped, after i showed them the sketch they were fine with it .I did take some beautiful photos of cows and sheep, might go back in the area again tomorrow.Not sure what my yard looks like after the storm while we are away !

Last week I was driving through the town of Hudson, NH and was stopped at a red light when this house really caught my eye it just looked like Halloween season or maybe haunted, I loved the strong light on it, I know the tree is in the middle but I think it added to the look of spooky ,anyway I just had seconds to snap a photo before the light turned green . I painted this at my studio today after having a nice lunch with my artists friends in the third floor.
Yesterday I had a terrible day after getting bit by a tiny deer tick again it was hooked on me for at least 18 hours , after many calls to doctor, nurses etc... I received a doses of antibiotics,I already have Lyme in my system from another bite a few years ago ,they are now very bad ,my neighbors got bit twice last week .

Thinking about France made me look at some of my old photos, this is a hotel that my Aunt owned in the town of Checy, it was called L'hotel du Midi , I probably could write a book about it, a lot of Family history happened there, weddings, religious events, births and funerals the family would gathered at the hotel after, I have just about every relatives photos in front of this old hotel even during World War two as well , the name is changed now, but the memories live on .
This was from a photo I took about 4 years ago now called Bar de la Diligence .

Well after three days here, I think fall is making an appearance finely, I think two weeks later than usual .It sure was a beautiful day here in the Western mountains of Maine,80 degree the past two days,yesterday I visited my artists friends on the mountain , Sugarloaf that is! they had a wonderful art show there,one I used to do years ago ,it was a lot of fun but so much work to drag all my paintings up there, I gave it up, and now enjoy visiting them.Well the leaf are changing and falling ,winter next!

Here is another one I have wanted to do for a longtime , I took these photos of carousels when they come every year in the town field and wanted to paint them with a minimum details,but mostly capture the light on them . I take thousands of photos every year then forget about them until I am looking for something else in the folder and my memory comes back why i took this ,getting old is not funny! I waste more time looking for things .

Here is another painting that was on my drawing board for awhile ,sometimes I get involve in many projects so some have to wait , this was one of them ,from my Newburry Street series I do ounce in awhile , today I decided to go to the studio and concentrated , I did take a break for a bus load of Japanese ladies who came to Lowell to visit the quilt museum and our Mill at WAS ,they bought some art cards so that was a bonus today !

The past few days I had no time to paint with the Lowell open studio week end , it was a lot of work but very successful for our group, over 2000 people came through the building in two days ,.I just did a lot of greeting and talking ,explaining different style of work ,most people wanted to know where all the houses I painted where located ,tons of compliments , I would be so rich if I could count them as dollars! I did sell some paintings so it was very nice .
I know it is this time of the year when people pick apples ,so I posted this little painting of one of my granddaughters , great for memories !

Here is another sketch done this summer before I painted a Pastel version of this scene ,yesterday it was a pencil one , I just taught I would show some of my process before painting some of my work , of course being a very impatient person I don't always do that and go right to the paint brush., this was the front porch where we were staying this summer ,a wonderful view on to a bay called Bailey's mistake on the Bay of Fundy . Some great work happened right there on that table when you have 8 artists painting away !lots of fun ...

Not much time to paint the last few days with the preparation of the Lowell open studios , a city wide event for two days, hope the weather will be in our favor , not too hot and not raining , the fall has come fast in Massachusetts , the colors have not changed that much but the leaves are falling already, .I do love fall with all it's activities , apple picking ,corn maize, fairs art shows etc...
I posted this small sketch to show it is always a good idea to do before you do a painting and work on the composition,drawn anytime free time you have ,it is a good practice !
Tomorrow I will be hanging paintings for the show !

What a beautiful September day today ! had a very nice day with my two friends Paula and Peggy, dropped off a couple paintings for the Beaver Brook art show in Hollis .
The Lowell open studios is only two weeks away ,so lots of framing to do and look after the finer details of having an open Studios . Save the date October 1&2 .Saturday and Sunday , so much Art to see in Lowell , you will be surprised !

This is Granddaughter # 2 who was my model this time, I visited her in South Carolina in the spring when the Daffodils had just come out , we all went to pick some at a farm ,what a perfect time to take photos of this special moment , and work the scene as a watercolor.
Today has been a long day! we had open Studio all day ,not that many came ,they must of all went to the beach today , it sure was a hot day , beautiful end of the summer !

This was a job I did at the beginning of the summer , it was a real Norman Rockwell scene right here in Pepperell , the mom of the little boy gave it to the Grandfather as a present .

Well we have escaped the worst of Irene with some broken branches and a broken dead tree, lots of debris ,but never lost power ,only a flicker. I feel bad for the rest of some New England towns who are flooded and have no power, weather sure can be strange at times . For the next few days I will be posting some miniatures , part of an order for a collector , he loves birds ,cats dogs etc.. so I think I will be doing a few of them. I was gallery sitting today, so while waiting for some customers, I worked on something I wanted to do for a longtime , my grand daughter in her beautiful prom dress with her cell phone in hand ,I think it is attached to her hand but then again I have become the same way with my own phone, what did we do some years back ? We really are slaves to the new technology around us and it is here to stay !
Anyway I did have fun painting her in a loose style ,her dress was beautiful and her date was handsome. I am blessed with two beautiful Granddaughters !

Laundry out on the porch

In a rainy day , what do you do ? well ,laundry and hang it out on the porch! this is what I did today ,well painted today. when the rain stopped I took a few walks with Clancy ,picked fresh berries and enjoyed the woods of Maine , by the end of the day it cleared up and went for a Kayak ride on the pond .

Just went out about an hour ago to paint this ,the sun was going down fast with big clouds in the sky , they were there actually all day between rain showers ,I really would like to do a big sky series in pastel , this will be a nice study for it .Another project in my mind, hope I get to all of them some day .
Today I had lunch with two very good friends in Farmington, with a little fun shopping , it was a good day ! tomorrow I am thinking of going wild blueberry picking .

While painting in Maine I really zoomed on laundry lines ,everywhere I went in the small back roads everyone had their fresh wash out , they're something so nostalgic about it , remembering growing up ,that was the only way we dried our clothes and it used to smell so good . This new generation will never know this feeling unless you still live in Maine , like the saying go " the way life should be " .

Hamilton cove

Pastel painted on Location in a foggy and cool morning while everyone else was baking on the East coast,I am back in land still in Maine but now feel what everyone was complaining about .At one time in my 200 mile journey back to my cabin in the Western mountains of Maine it was 97 degrees, very unusual for this part of the country .I must say we sure had the best two weeks painting in the Lubec area , a lot of new work done and took lots of photos .

I have been painting a lot and having a blast with my friends, the weather has been great compare to the rest of the country, while I was painting this scene I had to put a fleece on to keep warm, ocean air is always tricky, warm one minute and cold the next. Also tricky is painting boats they are always moving.

Monday's wash

Today being Monday everyone in Maine had done their wash and all the cleaned clothes flying in the wind,with the lupines still out ,I made many stop on our first drive with my friend Paula to take photos ,I gave her a tour of the area being her first time here, we had a lot of fun the weather was great we sure hope it will continue for our two weeks.

Fort William Henry, Pemaquid beach Maine

The first week my relatives visited ,I did take along to the Maine pastel painter's retreat , they were able to visit the area while I was painting and learned a little bit of American History at the same time , this Fort William Henry was very interesting , it could of been French at one time ,but the English won! if you ever visit the area it is well worth the trip to see and take the tour , one of Maine 's State park . Going to the retreat is also nice because we stay at the beautiful Antique Hotel Pemaquid with lots of history as well .
I truly enjoyed painting this scene,the weather was great ,and later that day this painting got critiqued by the group , all good marks! my Maine friends are so nice .

Hello to everyone who have followed me for many years , I took a break from my daily paintings because I had my French relatives visiting for over a month and became a tour guide along with running a Bed and breakfast , it was wonderful having them here and we had a wonderful time, never laugh so much in my life when we would reminisce of our childhood ,very good memories it was . We manage to do a bit of travel in beautiful New England . I knew I could not keep up with my art full time and all the other happenings, I did manage to take them along to a painting week end retreat in Maine and to a few art meetings.
Next week I will be heading back to my yearly painting retreat in Lubec , so looking forward to emerge myself in what I love the most ,Painting !
